US Passport/UK Passport
« on: March 07, 2011, 08:04:46 PM »
My husband is a UKC, I am USC... Our youngest is a Dual and our older two need to be registered...

Can we enter the UK on our US passports and obtain their UK passports while on holiday and/or register the older two as british citizens while we are there?

How old are the older two who I presume were born outside the UK? I as I remember there is a cut off age at which they must have been registered. (11???)

To get a passport you need to have a permanent address so they can send the passport to you.

This is my understanding anyway and is a few years old.

They will be 11 in June... I just got a post from someone at BE which cleared up the information for me! My mother in law's address would be the one we would use on the registration. And as far as I know, there is no cut off date other than the application must be made before the applicant turns 18.

I am in the middle of the process to get my (first time) UK Passport and I can tell you - it is an involved process.  I filled out the form online and then had to wait about 2 weeks for them to print it and send it to me.  I then signed and sent it in with the supporting documentation.  For a first time adult passport, you must send in your original docs by post (i.e. US passport and, in my case, naturalisation certificate).  You cannot get an in-person appointment for a first time adult passport.  The documents were returned to me quite quickly/ But  then i received a letter that I have to go in for an interview.  The earliest date for an interview is 2 weeks away. I know you are talking about childrens' passports, but I can't imagine that the process is easier for first time children passports.  I'm about a month into the process and I estimate it will take another 3 -4 weeks.
