I need a new Vacuum...Reviews?
« on: March 10, 2011, 05:01:08 PM »
I want a new vacuum, we have a Dyson green one about 10 years old and it is garbage!

I want to spend no more then 100ish - upright and bagless

I would prefer it have its own attach hose not use the handle as the hose tool thing (it bugs me)

Semi light - long host with attachments to do the stairs ect...

anyone have some reviews?

We have one of the small Dyson cylinders, and it's the best hoover I've ever used in my life. I don't think I would ever purposely buy a non-Dyson one now. It's supposed to be £215 or something, but we got it new on eBay for around £80 and it was worth every penny.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012

I can tell you what not to buy: a Vax.  I have one and hate it.  You constantly have to clean the filters and the thing still overheats and shuts off.  Apparently, according to online reviews, I am not the only one who has this problem.  Mine's a canister, but it appears that it is an issue for their uprights as well.

If you were to reconsider the upright requirement, I'd recommend a Henry.  They have bags, but you can get reusable ones for them.  My inlaws have two (one for each floor), and they've not managed to kill them despite using them basically as shop vacs.  I always thought they were powerful especially considering the abuse my inlaws give them.  Plus, I think the ones my inlaws have are around 10 years old.

The amount of money I've spent on vacuums makes me shudder.
After oodles of vacuum bought and binned.
If you can find a Vax Essentials Pet  Model VEU-21
It's the most amazing vacuum, I don't have pets but is as powerful as a dyson but cheap and cheerful,
I'll have to say, it is abit loud, but the sucker is powerful!
I bought mine for 39.00 at Argos on sale.

Good Luck ChillyWilly :)

Note: just read Legs Akimbo's post, I have the upright, but I've never had a problem with it.  Reviews were really good for this model on Argos.   Filter is abit of pain to clean indeed, but worth it for as well as it cleans.

Ive got a Dyson Animal.. I have two moggies that shed a lot lol.. I LOVE IT.. I'd never get another brand. They are a bit more expensive than other hoovers but sooo worth it.

I'm the same! Only with one massive cat instead of two ... though probably the same mass.  ;)

I love my Dyson Animal! I've had it for over 5 years and it's never let me down.

We have a Dyson DC-08 cylinder vac that came with the apartment.  It is definitely not new -- I'd bet it's 5+ years old -- and it works very well.  If I were to buy myself, I'd get a Dyson, but one of the smaller models.

We had a very nice Miele in our last place, but I like not having to worry about bags with the Dyson.

I too have an upright Dyson  (I think its a DC33?) that came with my flat. Fantastic. I HATE vacuuming and yet I absolutely love using the Dyson. Quick, efficient, leaves everything really clean.

My old flat had a green Dyson and it was just absolutle rubbish.  But this new one is just awesome!!

I also have an original roomba that's mine.  I let that go off during the week to get under the couch and cabinets, etc.  My roomba is great for spot cleaning but not for heavy duty vacuuming.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I cant bring myself to spend all that money on a Dyson - I cant!
I know dont convert blah blah blah but I am paid in US dollars so when I see a Dyson is 299 too me I think holy crap NO WAY 500 bucks on a vacuum.

Maybe when we have a bigger house and I decide to get a job here and get paid in pounds ;-)

bookgrl - they get a lot of good reviews!
Ninaeve - your did get excellent reviews but they dont make it anymore *snaps fingers*

I am trekking out today and I am on a mission

I really like it and I waited until Tesco had the trade in your clubcard vouchers for double the money and it was on sale so I think in the end it cost like 30.00.
