Are there food banks here? What about craiglist-type things?
« on: April 01, 2011, 12:37:07 PM »
Two questions, really.

We have a lot of canned food and non-perishable food we need to get rid of before moving. Are there any places like food banks here where I can donate these? What are they called? Googling "food banks" in my area doesn't seem to be yielding much.

Also, we have some furniture and stuff I'd like to sell. Craiglist isn't really hopping for our area, either. Is there a place where people sell stuff like this? (I'd like to try to sell some of the bigger/nicer stuff first before turning it all over to a charity...)

Thanks!

Gumtree seems more popular than craigslist here (gumtree.com).

There's also freecycle, which could help with donating things (not sure about food, though).

As far as the food goes, your best bet would be to contact a local church. They should be able to find a place for you to donate or would probably even take it.

You could do a car boot for the furniture and knick knacks. I agree to try a church first for the food.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Unfortunately, Salisbury is like 100 miles away from me. Not able to transport and deliver that far away. :(

If you click on the side button that says Find your nearest foodbank, it has a map of all the ones they're connected with. It looks like there is one in Slough that may be your closest.
