eBay question
« on: April 25, 2011, 08:28:54 AM »
I have a question for you eBay experts out there. I hope someone can help me!

I'm selling a few items and I generally only ship within the UK. However, a potential bidder just sent me a message asking if I'd be willing to ship to Spain and, if so, what the postage would be.

Now I have no problem shipping to Spain as long as I don't get screwed on the postage. The issue is that eBay now sets limits on what you can charge for postage. My current postage is within that limit, but if I send to Spain it'll be over.

My question is, is there a way to alter the postage price when I send the invoice after the auction has ended? Can I alter it to above the limit set by eBay?

The limit doesn't apply to international postage. If the bidder actually lives in Spain ebay it will not be an issue, you can change the postage after they win. If they live in the UK and just want you to send it to spain you might need to arrange to do an additional paypal money request for the additional postage.
Hope that helps.

You can alter the invoice you send the buyer to reflect a high postage cost (after the end of the auction).  Or, you possibly can alter the postage options before the end of the auction; however, that would open up the sale to others.

I would be careful sending outwith the UK, if you usually do not.  When someone sends me a special request I usually look into their ratings to be careful.  I don't accept any purchases not officially through ebay either--if something goes wrong, ebay will not cover you.

Just a thought!

Thanks to both of you!  :)

Ducky, no I don't normally send out of the UK, but this person's ratings look good and he/she has said the payment would be through PayPal. I think it'll be OK. And, who knows, they may not end up winning it or even bidding on it.

Thanks again! xx
