Let me know how that goes. I've been considering doing the same thing, since driving lessons can be really quite pricey. I feel like I mostly just need to learn how to drive a manual car and study for the theory test...but I've heard the tests are actually quite difficult.  Please do post an update to let us know how it works out for you!

I'm just about to send off for my provisional license as well.  I think I'll probably give in and have a few lessons, just to go around the test course a few times, practice doing the maneuvers 'properly,' and find out what I need to do to pass the test.  I might not even bother with that if it weren't that they only offer the tests out here a few times a year, so if I fail the first time, I can't just come back next week.

I've told my husband that he'll need to explain to the instructor that I do not require being taught how to drive, just how to pass the test.  :)

I dont have a choice in the matter really, I need a UK licence for my job, and to be able to commute to work and back.

Ive heard the tests are difficult as well I just need to get a practice disc and a few lessons how to do things properly as well.

I promise the tests arent as hard as you think.  The theory test I studied like I would have for any exam with online tests and a Q&A book. I highlighted the answers and had my DH ask me all of them and I NEVER read the highway code book and I scored 100%.  Now the Hazard perception part I thought was rubbish but I passed with I think 80% but you have to think like a new driver and not see stuff to fast which I did since I have been driving for 10 years.  Do every practice test you can online and then relax (easy said then done).

The practical test for me was slightly easy since I did mine in an automatic and the examiner was chatty about his trips to florida - so that was a plus for me.

Just get out and do it - do the dog nod (rear view mirror looking) and all the fun stuff.
You can do it!
