Manchester Terminal 2 Entry
« on: May 09, 2011, 02:36:23 PM »
Mods move this if it's more about visas, but I thought I would let everyone know.  Both times I have traveled through Manchester Terminal 2 in the last 6 months, Americans with settlement visas who presented in the UK/EU passport lines were not allowed to enter through that line and were told they had to go through the non-UK/EU passport line.  At least I assume they were, since they had to go to the non-EU passport line shortly after a briefly talking with the IO dealing with EU passports.  Since I had seen this twice in 6 months, I thought I would just mention it for anyone flying into Manchester with a British spouse.  Happy travels everyone!

Good to know as I will be flying into Manchester in December with a British spouse.

So just out of curiosity, persephone, based on what you observed, are they making the British spouse also go to the non-UK/non-EU line?  Because I thought the idea was, whichever line, you go through together as a family if you are traveling together?

Obviously doesn't affect me, but the question just came to my mind from back in the day & I thought someone else might wonder too.

I saw two American women with their British spouses who tried the UK/EU line and both were bumped over to the non-EU passport line.  I don't remember the other one, but this time the lady's husband went over with her to go through the non-EU line.  I obviously couldn't hear what was said, so I don't know if he was asked to go with her or if he chose to go with her.  Come to think of it though, I remember an entire family where the mom was American but the kids and the dad who were British go through the non-EU line once, but that was possibly a few years ago now.  Same airport though.

We just came back from Greece and went through the non-EU line at Manchester yesterday. Unfortunately although this line only had a dozen people in it, it took longer to clear than the huge EU line and we were stood at the back. Because of Turkish flight that had just come in there were a number of non-EU and they were questioning and fingerprinting them all.
Usually we've got in quicker by being in this line form a European trip!
DW asked if in future she could go in the EU line as she has ILR and they said no. I could have still gone through the EU line but I'd only have been waiting for ages and worrying!
