Quick Passport Renewal Question...
« on: May 10, 2011, 07:33:34 AM »
How do you staple the photos to the application?  I am blind as to where it says how it's meant to be done.

The instructions that came with the application say to look on the website (why they did this rather than just add another sentence or two explaining it is beyond me  ::)), and when I go to the website, all they talk about is the size of the photos.  I know it must be somewhere, so I feel like a crazy person.

Thanks in advance!  :)

Did he get his passport ok or are you still waiting?  I trimmed them, but I was terrified when I did it.  2 of them I trimmed a little less than the other 2, and I've been considering including all of them just in case I trimmed the one set too much!  I measured them with a tape measure, but then this voice of irrationality says "Well, this is a UK tape measure.  What if they got the inches side wrong?!"  ::) They're just so scary about the photos!  :P

The application itself has that little square with the cartoon head, where you're supposed to staple them.  I'm assuming that you put a staple in the 4 places where it says "staple", but I'm scared to do it until I have some kind of written verification in the form of a sentence rather than the word "staple".  :P

I just put a staple in as close to the edge as I could get it when I renewed mine, no problems getting it.

We're still waiting for it, the money was only taken last Friday after sending it on the 21st. They are so scary about the photos which is why i didnt want to trim or staple or anything!! It was massive so i'm hoping it won't have gotten lost. I guess we'll see!!!!

I would use a glue stick and just stick the top half onto the app, that way they can peel it off when they get it, and it doesn't damage the photo.

DH got his shiny new passport today :) Only took a month (including all the bank holidays!) and it didn't seem to matter that we didn't staple the photo to the application!

Oh good to know!  Glad it only took a month.  I sent mine off yesterday with the photos stapled on (I swear, I wasn't agonising over this for weeks or anything :P  ;)) One staple for each corner.  Wish I read this sooner, I just would have left them off! Hahaha.

Nice that it's a quick turnaround. :) The Embassy charged my credit card on Monday so I'm hoping mine gets processed quickly. I don't have any travel plans until Thanksgiving, but it's always nice to have a passport on hand.

I've been quite impressed with the passport handling at the embassy. I sent them an e-mail because my passport was reported as lost (when it was) but I forgot to report it as found when it showed up again a few days later. When I visited the US in February the customs guy was very confused about it and said I should include information about it when I sent in my renewal. I forgot to do that, so e-mailed then instead. Not only have they gotten back to me within 24 hours for both e-mails, but they've actually been informative. :)

Apparently my passport is being printed in the US and sent over, and they should receive it/send it along within 7 business days. (Somehow I thought they could handle printing passports here at the embassy, but I guess not!)

Got mine back today.  It took precisely 3 weeks (that's with me paying for Special Delivery for there and back).  It's so different from my old one!  It's all stiff and computerized and whatnot!  What a difference 10 years makes...

I know! They sent my old one back and it's remarkable the difference between it and the new one.

I forgot to post when I got mine, but I think it was about 3 weeks ago - pretty fast turnaround time, I thought. :)
