Visit worries
« on: May 17, 2011, 01:33:46 AM »
Even though I have had no problems in the past, I am still worried about the immigration officers at the border. I think I've read all of the posts regarding denied entry and IOs on this board, but has anyone recently had problems at the border? I will be bringing plenty of proof (pay stubs, school schedule for Fall, bank statement, letter of invitation).

I don't think you can judge whether or not you will have issues upon trying to enter the UK based on whether others have had trouble recently.  It's really dependent on how well you can demonstrate that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit as required.  What specifically are you worried about?

This will be one of many visits to the UK over the past few years and I've always left when I said I would. I've never stayed for longer than two weeks. I am worried that they won't think I have enough evidence even though I'm bringing lots of documentation. I've never been worried before, but I think the horror stories on here are worrying me more than anything.

I felt the same way as you last year when I went to UK in the summer for 5 weeks. I had a folder of all my documents showing proof I had no intention of staying and I was going to come back home. I was a nervous wreck when we were about to land. When I went up to the IO, it took about 2 minutes to get through. I was honest about why I was coming over. He just asked a few questions about my relationship and in the end wished us luck! This summer I'm going back and I'm not too worried. I think if you have never overstayed or broken any rules and bring the necessary documents to prove you are coming back, you won't have a problem.

Thank you very much for the encouragement! I'm sure that's the way it will go, I've just gotten myself into a state worrying after reading all these posts about American women having more problems getting in. I'll just have all of my documents ready, try and get some sleep to calm myself down, and be prepared. I know that I won't be staying longer than 2 weeks and will follow immigration's rules to the letter, so I really have nothing to worry about.

You said it yourself: you have nothing to worry about.  So don't!

Thank you!  :) I've been trying to talk myself out of worrying for a while now, but no one I know has been in a similar situation so that haven't known what to say. You've both been really helpful.
