Going out for a Curry Tonight!
« on: August 27, 2004, 06:44:33 PM »
It's Friday, we've had a successful day getting my husband's visa, the kids are at my in-laws.  There's only one thing to do:  Go out for a curry!

What's everybody's favourite dish?

I usually like a Madras or a Jalfrajee...  But I just might try something different tonight!

Chicken Sag-it's with spinach.  It's my all time favorite.   :)

Chick pea, cauliflower and spinach in a balti sauce, with naan breads and mango chutney. :)

Chicken Tika Balti with Fried Rice and Keema Naan. YUMMY!
On low carb diet now so havent had it in a few months.

Ya know it took me nearly 2 years to TRY a curry! I couldnt stand the smell of them when my husband would get them. Finally I tried it and got hooked!

My DH used to make wonderful, homemade curries when we were dating in Chicago, and on our first trip to England, he took me for a curry the evening we arrived!  I've been hooked ever since.

On Friday evening, I was sooooooo hungry.  It was a long day and stomache was rumbling!

I went for a Chicken Tikka Chili Balti.  I like hot dishes.  But I also got a side of sag aloo; I love the combination of spinich and potatoes.  I absolutely STUFFED my face !  It was soooo good.

I'll really miss going out for a curry.  Fortunately, Tony makes excellent ones, but there's something special about going out for one.

My favorites are channa chat (chickpeas with sliced veggies in spicy yoghurt sauce) and aloo ghobi (potatoes and cauliflower) with mushroom pilau rice.  Yum yum!

We also make our own saag paneer at home, but a waiter at our favorite curry restaurant tells us we're using the wrong kind of paneer.   [smiley=doh.gif]

This thread makes me laugh.  After meeting my fiance, I became a curry-head (as he calls me sometimes).  And my friend who just went to Scotland to be with her boyfriend loves curry now too.

Its just soooo yummy.

Okay, you guys.........what is the secret to getting over that sickly sweet smell that I have avoided like the plague for 5 years???

Put a clothespin on my nose so I won't smell it and just dig in or what?  :o

i was SO ANTI the smell you don't even know!!!!

BUT it turns out that once you've tried the stuff and found something you like, your nose and brain don't focus on the smell anymore!

seriously i used to hate the smell of indian curry SO much i used to physically gag when my roomates came home with take away.  because my husband loves curry so i had my friend take me out in boston to a place, early in the evening so no one was there so i could not be grossed out by smells.  go when it's not crowded the first time and when it doesn't reek of curry.....it works and is SO worth it!
