Private healthcare question

Is it possible to visit a private doctor (in this instance a gynecologist) without belonging to a private healthcare group like BUPA?  I'm wanting to make an appointment and see if I like the service better but I don't necessarily want to join a private healthcare group just for one appointment...  I don't mind paying for the appointment and whatever services I receive.

Yes I believe if you can find a private doctor they will charge you just like any other patient.

I thought the same thing then I met the main nurse (I cant remember what she was called) she did the exam and I swear she was better then the doctor at my gp's office.

Yes, you should be able to see a private GYN without private health insurance. But some places require referrals from your NHS GP. Still, I don't think you'll have any real problems.

I'm negotiating the whole private/NHS consultant thing right now due to some complications with my pregnancy. I don't know if it's in the case in London, but it seems that outside of London there aren't really any specialists who have only a private practice. Most of them are NHS consultants who do private consultations on the side. Because my insurance won't cover anything more than the first consultation, I've had to get another referral from my GP to continue to see the same doctor under the NHS. The big difference so far-- whereas my appointment was set up in a matter of days under private insurance, with the NHS I'm expecting it to take a couple of weeks. That seems to be the way of things...
