Traveling Back to US After Settlement Visa?
« on: June 30, 2011, 09:53:55 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have my visa in hand, at long last.  But I am running into some potential problems with regard to selling my home (post on that topic forthcoming, in appropriate forum).

I am set to travel/move to the UK on July 11th.  Can someone succinctly explain to me what happens if I need to turn around and come home in a week or 2 or 3, hopefully for a short time, to deal with real estate issues?

I understand I have the 3 months, 28 days leeway toward the 2 yr requirement for being in the UK in order to easily apply for ILR.

My brain is SO tired from all the issues I've been dealing with, I can't quite work out the implications of going to the UK on July 11th, and then turning around rather quickly for a trip back home.

Thanks so much,
~Teddy

That's fine - the visa is multi-entry, so you can fly back and forwards between the UK and the US whenever you want to. The only thing you need to do within the first 3 months and 28 days is enter the UK for the first time using the visa, so it is stamped by immigration with that date - the 2-year count to ILR will start on that day (so July 11th, if you are flying then).

As long as you don't spend months at a time outside the UK during the 2 years, it shouldn't be an issue for ILR.

That's excellent news, ksand24!  I'm surprised UK-Yankee isn't awash with ads for Xanax!!!!!!!  :-)  Endless stress....

Cheers!
