Redundancy - Tax refund?
« on: July 01, 2011, 04:49:21 PM »
So, I'll have my first consultation next week, and my notice period will end at the end of July.

My fiance tells me I should be able to get a tax refund given that they did the PAYE at the rate for 12 months, and so since I'm only working a few months out of the tax year, I should get some of that back.

I googled around, and HMRC says to contact your tax office if you think you are entitled to a refund - what exactly do they mean?  Like..at work?  Or is this something council related?

Anyone else been through this and can offer guidance?  Thank you!

Obviously it depends if you are claiming the remittance basis or filing on the arising basis. So, how do you file your UK tax returns?
