TV connections
« on: July 02, 2011, 08:37:27 PM »
Still trying to figure out TV here. We have Sky in our living room. It's connected with this type of wall plate:

Currently Sat 1 and Sat 2 and the phone jack are in use. We also have a single wall plate like this in our master bedroom:

We've had Sky out here to try and get the multiroom set up but were told it wouldn't work. How do we get a TV signal in our bedroom? Even if it's just freeview. We've already run a coax cable from the socket to the TV and still nothing. It's a brand new TV with freeview built in.

The coax is most likely for an aerial, you might need a new aerial to get freeview. Never seen a set up for Sky like that and I've had Sky since 1992!

What did the Sky guy say when he said it wouldn't work? Are you in a house or a flat?
"We don't want our chocolate to get cheesy!"

He just said we didn't have satellite in the bedroom so he couldn't hook it up. We're in a flat, brand new.

What's an aerial?

What's an aerial?

Aerial is the British word for what Americans call an "antenna". Rooftop TV aerials look like this.

You can get indoor ones but they are not very good if you live:

in an area that has switched over to digital,

in a still-analog area and not pretty close to the transmitter mast.

This is from a TV distribution system installer (who knows, perhaps even the one who installed the setup in your building) which looks quite similar:

Have a read through and things might be a little bit clearer.
