I really hope they'll do it again! Apparently Fin & Flounder do these monthly "supper clubs" at the eel & pie shop on Broadway Market but they change around the chef each time. We'd definitely go again, but next time bring a cushion because the wooden benches were REALLY uncomfortable, and it was a four hour feast...

So the courses:
To start, there were tortilla chips, homemade guacamole (omg fantastic guac!), salsa verde, and a regular salsa that was really smokey but not overly spicey, like there was a high acho chile quotient. Our table of 6 went throgh about 4 platefuls of these, and I think that was my husband's downfall as he ate too much early on!
** Traditional Mexican Ceviche
This was quite possibly the best dish all night - white fish with fresh coriander, pomegranate, thinly sliced red onion, and of course, lime juice. Totally lovely. Oh and a big slice of avocado, too.
** Pescadillas w/ Avocado Sauce
These were amazing! Deep fried mini tacos filled with "dog fish" that tasted exactly like crab to me and so I looooved. Served over a bunch of shredded cabbage with the thick avocado sauce drizzled on top.
** Green Ceviche
This was fish, coriander, lime and a bunch of sliced green olives. I'm an olive lover, but I think the first ceviche worked a bit better.
** Fish Tacos w/ Chipotle Mayonnaise
We had three mini masa harina soft tortillas each with a thick slab of a white fish, deep fried with a tiny drizzle of the chipotle mayo (great for me as I hate mayo) and fresh coriander on top and a lime wedge. The fish was cooked beautifully - big, flakey pieces. This reminded me of the salt cod at The Real Greek.
** Acapulco Style Cocktail Prawns
Styrofoam cups (ha! from the eel & pie shop) with cocktail sauce, fresh avocado, and two enormous shell-on prawns.
** Sea Bass Wrapped in Banana Leaves w/ Ancho Salsa
I don't know how they got the sea bass to taste so buttery, so creamy, and so delicious as there weren't any apparent herbs or spices (the sauce was on the side for dipping) but this was one of the best fishes I've ever eaten. We each got a whole fish (head, tail and all) so by the end, only the skeleton remained, like a Heathcliff comic.

** Veracruz Granita
Styrofoam cups with chunks of ice, condensed milk, grenadine, and a big banana chunk. We were a bit confused by it until Erick came out of the kitchen (to rapturous applause) and told us we needed to mash it up with the spoon. Once vigorously mashed for a few minutes, everything went lovely and creamy as the flavours mixed together.
Oh and then there was a pinata, too! We didn't get the dessert until past 11 so we ran to catch a cab afterwards, but the food was gorgeous and we were all sat family-style at the marble tables and benches, and since it was BYOB everyone was popping out to the offies down the road and bringing back Coronas and limes, which added to the atmosphere, too.
Fabulous night, in other words.
