The Sun: "Norway's 9/11"
« on: July 23, 2011, 11:48:47 AM »
The Norwegian police have arrested a distinctly blond guy with the distinctly un-Islamic name of Anders Behring Breivik. There are hints that he is a Christian fundamentalist with neo-Nazi links.

I just went to get the Guardian and I couldn't help noticing that the good old Murdoch press didn't do any pantywaist liberal waiting for the truth to emerge. Oh no.

I actually thought right-wing group when  the bomb went off.  Why else bomb during the summer holidays?  When the shooting was reported I started to  doubt myself, but I guess I was right.

I wish the media and leaders wouldn't publicly jump to conclusions (Obama).

DW was watching Friday nights O'Reilly Factor on Fox News this morning, and that vile, spiteful woman Laura Ingraham was hosting it and she said "a bomb that follows the hallmarks of Islamic extremists", this went out on air after it was known it was no such thing....I wonder if Fox will make a complete apology for this remark.....I very much doubt they'll mention the Christian fundamentalist angle to it though......no, I guess now it will just be a crazed madman and not a terrorist.

Apparently the Ingraham woman actually linked the Norwegian atrocity with the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque" that she has a thing about. Fox News admitted on July 24 that the suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, was being described by police as a “fundamentalist Christian.” Strangely, they didn’t call for a ban on church construction. And though they identified him as a “terror” suspect they did not call the attacks themselves an act of terrorism but rather said that the police were labeling them as such.

You can well imagine how different their coverage would be if Breivik’s name and complexion were Islamic.

Something similar happened on a Washington Post blog:

Am I reading correctly that this guy and the groups he has been associated with are anti-immigrant?
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Yes, and anti Muslim immigrant in particular. A manifesto he published online on the day of the attack ranted against Muslim immigration to Europe and vowed revenge on "indigenous Europeans," whom he accused of betraying their heritage. It added that they would be punished for their "treasonous acts."

Yes. Extreme right-wing, Christian fundamentalist. He made numerous references to Christianity in his rantings. He's also linked with the far-right English Defence League (EDL)
