Another hello thread
« on: September 02, 2004, 09:42:03 AM »
Hello!

My name is Sari and I'm a girl who just moved to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire from Minneapolis MN to be with my husband.  I've been here 3 weeks so far (and of course have visited before) so everything still seems pretty new.  I came across this forum just by doing a quick search, I'm not homesick so to say (I hope not after 3 weeks!!) but I would still love to chat with other American girls especially who are in a similar situation as me!  I've browsed around a bit before I decided to register and it seems like everyone here is really helpful and there is some really good advice!  Anyways, just wanted to say hi and am looking forward to being a part of these forums!

Sari ;)

Hi there Sari... I too have only beenn here a short time and so far have not had any major homesickness.  They say it hits at three months so this should be my month. :)

I hope you enjoy the site!

H Sari,

Welcome to the site!  I'll agree with vnicepeeps...it's definitely months 3 and 4 that are the hardest (or at least they were for me!).  Once get through them, though, it's pretty smooth sailing.

Looking forward to getting to know you!   :)

Welcome.

Since I didn't come over for love and met my now fiance at month 3/4, I can say I had no homesickness then!! But, it can hit at any time. You just need to know it can and have a bit of a gameplan for how to cope.  ;D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Hi, Sari. You're certainly in good company here!!

I've been here just a few days over a year and I only get the occaisional "pang" of missing a particular friend or family member, and I've definitely had a few lonely moments (particularly in the dead of winter), but I can very honestly say that I've never been homesick and never had a "what have I done" or "I want to go home" moment.

I'm nowhere near Yorkshire, unfortunately, but there are plenty of northerners on this forum!

Welcome!

thanks people :D

I'm not homesick just to clarify, I'm still too new to it all.   I have a great support system here so it shouldn't be so difficult, it's just occasionally I like to talk to fellow americans, as I stated I stumbled upon this site and felt a sort of company.

Hi Sari! I'll be in the U.K. in 12 days and, like you, think it's going to be wonderful to have a place to chat with other Americans.

Welcome Sari!  I'm a newbie too.....I'll be moving to England around Xmas time to be with my fiance'.  I lived there once 24 years ago - with him - and now we're back together again!  Don't tell me life isn't strange!  ;)  I don't recall getting too homesick, and hope it will be the same now.  Although, my young adult son wishes to stay here and as it's been only the two of us for 18 years, I think that part will be tough.  Wahhhhhhhhhh.

Jill

Greetings Sari!  Welcome to the UK.  I'm sure you'll find the climate a little warmer than MN!!  I have family in St Mathias (near Brainerd) and quite visiting them in the fall and winter...I come from the snowy Cascade mountains, but the MN cold is something I could never handle...though Ice fishing would be cool...I digress...

Welcome to the site and I'm sure we'll see you around the boards....
