Stayed a extra week
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:44:41 AM »
I'm pretty psyched, Going back to the UK in september, I'll have a letter from my employer my reservations. I'm only booking one night at a B&B since then I'll be London bound and I'm hoping that doesn't cause a issue with the IO. Anyways...Last time I went to the UK I stayed a week over what I had originally booked. I had a no fly notice from the A&E dr. due to the fact I cracked my head open while at a pub. So they wouldn't let me leave the country until they took the stitches out and had me go thru a eye exam and cat scan. I was questioned about this when i re entered the states. Now will the IO's have this information? Will it cause any problems? I may still have the no fly sheet somewhere. Should I bring it with me? My insurance did cover the AE bill. it was only 200 pounds. I sent it in to the insurance some weeks ago. they told me it took up to 45 days to process so It should be taken care of before I go. I'm just nervous when it comes to dealing with the IO's. Since the lady I had last time caught me off guard I wasn't expecting all the questions.

if anyone can shed any light on this be much appreciated!

Bring the sheet, but as long as you weren't told you had to leave by X date then you should be fine.

Provided you meet all the other issues with money and all that.

Presumably you stayed for less than 6 months, if so, you did nothing wrong.

I originally was staying 2wks and was there for 3. I'll bring it just to be on the safe side but I can always show my scar! lol. I'm only going for a week this time, so I'll have 3 credit cards, my debit card and like 600 in cash which should be fine since I only had 2 credit cards and 500 in cash when I stayed for 2weeks. IO's just make me a bit nervous but least i know what to expect! are they requiring you show your health insurance cards now as well?

You really are good to go. Staying a week over when you meant to stay two weeks is not an issue. Even better you didn't burden the NHS and paid for your treatment.

So no worries!

I think we all tend to overthink things when we have been on this board for awhile and have seen the 'horror' stories. It is good to be prepared, but seriously... breathe!  ;) Have your documents prepared and show them if asked and you should be fine. :)

Worry not.  People change their minds and extend their vacations all the time.  You visit back then was for (much less) than the 6 months you are allowed to be here on a Visitors Visa or Visa Waiver, even with the addition of the extra week.

They don't have a running tally of when your flights were supposed to be, all they see is that you were stamped into the UK and then stamped out 3 weeks later.  Even if you'd decided to stay an extra 2 months, they wouldn't know that when next you came in.  All they see is how long you stayed.

I was here originally for 1 week back in 2009 and decided to add an extra week just because I wanted to.  No one batted an eye.  In general they just want to know 1) can you support yourself while visiting and 2) will you be going back.

Now, if your extra week would have put you over the time limit on your visa or visa waiver...THAT would be an issue.

There is no outgoing stamp for the UK.  They have no way of knowing when you left, if you didn't get a stamp in the country you travel to.

And yes, they can have a record of when you were supposed to leave (but not always), but as long as you left within the six months, and since you have a very good reason, you should be fine.

I once entered for 10 days and stayed for 6 months.  It was fine.
