Treatment on prospective student visa
« on: August 22, 2011, 10:09:34 AM »
I would like to get on the Pill while I'm here (very painful otherwise) and I haven't even applied for my T4 visa yet so I don't want to do anything illegal by using the NHS. I have lived here previously on another visa during which I was entitled to NHS treatment, but now no. Are there any private clinics where I can obtain the Pill??

When DW's daughter was visiting we got her stocked up on the pill as it's available free from any family-planning clinic.

Isn't a physical exam required? or proof of residence, etc.?

No. Maybe.

Birth control is free to all. But I'm not sure if it is free to those who qualify for NHS, or free to everyone in general. Family planning services are always free for everyone, regardless of their status in the UK.

I know women, who did not qualify for NHS, that recieved BCPs from sexual health clinics in the UK. But with the changing climate around NHS use you might want to be careful.

"Clinics are free and confidential." So they would have records?

Confidential is not the same as anonymous.

ETA: I'd double check but I am pretty sure BC is free regardless of ability to qualify for NHS.

They keep records.

Just had a peek at CAB and family planning services are always free for everyone, regardless of their status in the UK. So you're good to go! :)
