Expat for 12 years and counting!
« on: September 07, 2011, 11:25:35 AM »
Hello everyone. :) I found this site via the Amazon preview of the book Bringing Up Brits: Expat parents raising cross-cultural kids in Britain .

I hold dual citizenship, as my mother was born here, but she grew up in America and so did I. I moved to England when I was 18 and have lived my entire adult life over here, met my English husband here and had our 4 children here. I couldn't be more settled.

Or so I thought! I have come to realise that my closest friends are all American and recently my husband has been going to America for work and it has re-kindled a desire to live in my homeland once again. My American friends are both moving back to the States by the end of the year, so that doesn't help my home sickness, either!

I have only been back to America once in the 12 years I've lived here, and it was really nice to not have a neon sign over my head every time I opened my mouth.  ;)

We home school our kids and live in Northamptonshire.

Thanks for having me! Time to have a poke around....

Heh. I'm out in the boonies; when I open my mouth, heads turn. I've been threatening to get a t-shirt that says THAT AWFUL AMERICAN WOMAN and just spare everybody the trouble of asking.

Welcome to the forum! (Wherever you end up).

Welcome to UK-Y :)  Where in the US did you grow up?  I am currently in Georgia and will be moving to Northamptonshire in the spring - such a pretty area that reminds me a lot of Georgia, but of course not quite as hot

I'm from Missouri.

Northamptonshire is very lovely. I am impressed with the number of country parks there are. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about the area. :)
