Depressed that nothing seems to go right :(
« on: September 20, 2011, 03:10:17 PM »
So my dream of going to uni in London this year didn't happen. We couldn't find a place to live (and one that passed us after doing credit checks?!), my finances never got sorted even though I got approved for loans. I kept having issues with either my name or something to do with my social security number, miscommunication with my school etc...

I gave up and I'm back at my old uni tommorow. I feel hopeless and numb after all of the things I tried. DH had to defer his uni too and I can see he's gutted. He tries to hide it but I'm not an idiot.

Also everything else just seems to be piling up on me. My ex landlord is harassing me and not going forward with giving me my bond back even though she said to me that I left the place really nice and clean with no damages. She's now starting to make up random amounts for bills owed (we paid monthly contributions to the bills without fail). So i have to fight it out with the deposit scheme which is taking a lot longer than I thought it would take (20 days now).

Just feel really down :( and I'm not in study mode so I'm scared that I'll come out with a crappy degree this year and I don't have a clue what my dissertation will be on even though everyone else already started working on theirs :(.

Thanks for reading if you got this far :)

Thanks for the support guys :).

I'm feeling better but also worse at the same time today. I've got 3rd year induction and I have to see lecturers that I told I'd be leaving this year and asked for recommendations. I'll be so embarassed! Don't even know if I should approach them or not.

I'm sorry things didn't work out Gibby, but keep your head up.  Just think, it's only one more year and then you never have to worry about it or deal with it again!  :) Less than a year even, because you'll probably be finished in June, right? It will fly by if you just try to stay positive.  Don't be embarrassed about the lecturers, if they ask just say it didn't work out and leave it at that.  It's none of their beeswax, and you have nothing to be embarrassed about.  Plans change all the time.

I'm sorry you have to deal with so much disappointment, but in the grand scheme of things, it will be a blip on the radar and nothing more.  Just get stuck in, do the best you can, and keep in mind that it's only a little while longer.

As for the landlord, well, there are far too many of those in the world.  But stick to your guns and hopefully she will see the light.

Good luck with everything, and I hope you feel better soon.  Hang in there!

ETA: My friend's granny always says, "Oh hen, what's meant for us, won't pass by us." I like that way of thinking, and I have to say I agree with it.  :)

Aw thanks NoseOverTail, your post made me smile :).

You're absolutely right. I like your nan's quote too it's such a cute granny thing to say but I too agree with it.

I also agree with what NoseOverTail said.  Everything always seems harder when we're smack dab in the middle of it. But the hardship will pass. And nothing for you to feel embarrassed about!  These things happen. The lecturers won't even give you a second thought in a day or two.  Do something nice for yourself to help chase the blues away. You deserve it. Hugs!

Sending hugs! I get down about things not working out, but in hindsight I always see that these glitches and trip ups along the way are a good measure of determination, and make the rewards that much sweeter in the end. Keep on keeping on and it will all fall together in time.

We had a landlady like that in the States. She refused to give our deposit back despite no damages and a floor to ceiling clean of the whole place. We took her to court, and by the time she had to pay court costs and our lawyer's fee, she ended up paying triple what she would have had to pay to begin with.

Hang in there, it's only 9 more months or so and then you can move on to whereever and whatever you want. :) Good luck!

I'm sorry things are rough!  I hope the nine months whiz by and that you get a first with no problem!!

aw thanks guys! I love how supportive you all are. :)

Sarah, there's no way I'll get a first :p. I'd be quite happy with a 2:1 though  ;D.
