I've only been here a little over 1 month, but the only thing i've missed is grape jelly and real peanut butter (like Skippy or Peter Pan or something).   I make PB&J all the time, and the closest thing I've found to grape jelly is something called "bramble jelly" or something and the peanut butter is awful.  When I asked someone about PB&J, they had never heard of it and couldn't believe that you would put peanut butter and jelly in the same sandwich.

Ahhh tomorrow I am placing an order for skippy pb and welch's grape jelly through skyco.uk.com----depends if you are as desperate as my daughter to warrent the price :-) (also ordering applejacks and pop tarts)

Aaron, you can usually find Skippy at Cullens, Sainsburys or Waitrose.  And I think that Cybercandy at Covent Garden has Jif.

As for the poll I've got to say that I don't miss any of those things.   ::)  Maybe just hot fudge sundaes.  I used  to miss Hoagies but now that Subways has opened I'm happy.

The Good Pub guide can help you folks out.  Gastropubs are all the rage now... must just get away from the cheap and cheerful Wetherspoons type.

Rick Steins Food Heros book also can point the way to some lovely delis, dairys and fishmongers.

Key with fish to to find a reputable fishmonger and also buy local.  Granted some of you have it harder than those of us in Cornwall and Devon.  As for shrimp -in most cases if you look at where they are sourced in places like Sainsburys they are coming from Indonesia and places like that.  Which is exactly where many come from in the USA as well.

You can get specialty seafood but you will have to pay for it -but that's like any place.

There is quite lovely food here and quite diverse as well.  Have not had a problem finding anything here in Plymouth or in my adventures in London.  You just have to look harder, be willing to pay more or drive longer distances.

Now granted none of this has anything to do with Taco Bell, but I will leave the love of Taco Bell to those that actually like it.  I OD'd on it in college and have not eaten it in over 5 years.  Though now I think I shall have to make TexMex tonight.  Found pintos at Sainsburys and black beans so I am happy.  :)

PS I do love having a Subways!!!  Also the UK Tesco whole nut peanut butter is very much like the Smuckers Natural in the USA.  It's what we ate in the USA so we were happy to find it.  Honestly you get used to the taste of real peanut butter without all the additives.  We did.  I used it to make peanit butter cookies and it was ..... orgasmic......Our Sainsburys carries the Skippy as well.

Subway? Here in the Medway area? Where?!

Thanks for the pub suggestions...Haven't been to Gillingham (except to buy a Toyota).

Alas, there is no Subway in the Medway area - the closest one was in Gravesend and that one closed up last year.  :-\\\\

However - Bluewater has Quiznos, and is getting a Krispy Kreme soon.  There's also a Mr Pretzel (hot soft pretzels) there (along with the requisite Micky D's and KFC  ::) ).

For my Subway fix I go to Romford (near my in-laws) in Essex.

Subway are doing a massive acquisition for the year 2004. Basically, they want 2004 Subways shops by the end of the year in the UK. (I used to work for a chartered surveyor).

And I have to say the only food I miss the most is mexican. I went to a tapas bar just last weekend that sold chimichangas (!) and I swear I nearly peed myself I was so pleased. And it was gooooood. Really really good. But I can pretty much make everything myself and there is a fantastic tex-mex restaurant (albeit a bit pricey) in Headingley which is right next to Leeds.
