Pumpkin Pie is back at WholeFoods
« on: October 13, 2011, 06:14:08 PM »
At least at the Soho London branch. It's in the refrigerated section rather than baked goods.  I'm currently sitting outside it happily ruining my dinner!  Expect WholeFood prices though. £9.99 for a pie, £1.99 for a slice.

Awesome! Hopefully it will still be there around Thanksgiving. I'm already trying to figure out how to learn to make a pumpkin pie for the first time! (Hey, I was always in charge of the salad and the stuffed mushrooms! :P)

Don't worry.  You'll be able to order pies and turkey for Thanksgiving from Whole Foods Kensington .  They also usually have  teeny tiny cans of cranberry sauce for £2.50.  Depending on where you are going to live in London, your local butcher may take orders for Thanksgiving turkey and other local shops may carry apple and pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving.

A pumpkin pie is one of the easiest pies to make.  Really.  I always screw up pie crusts and everything, but even I can't mess a pumpkin one up too bad!!!  :) :)

Good to know! Can you tell I'm a wee bit afraid of baking? ;) Now what about corn meal to make corn bread for dressing? That's probably the only other thing I'll need (no turkey needed since I'm veggie!) :)

Corn meal can usually be found in the Italian food section, it is called polenta.

I know polenta, but is that coarse enough for making corn bread? I thought they were different.

It really is. It's the easiest thing to bake! I have never bought a pumpkin pie, and I never cared for any that friends bought. (I don't put cloves in my own, don't' care for that blend of flavors.) But they sell Libby's at my Waitrose year round now, so I'm happy! ;D

I've had "polenta cake" that is remarkably similar in texture to cornbread, so I'm guessing it is.

I have been making cornbread from polenta since I moved here and it's exactly the same :)
