Phoenix half marathon and urbanathalon!
« on: October 18, 2011, 06:06:42 AM »
Soooo... I just signed up for my first half marathon that will take place in January. That means I am going to run 13.1 miles.... I'm gonna die!  :o For those of you familiar with the Phoenix area its the P.F. Chang's Half, a pretty big event that draws nearly 30,000 people. I'm also doing an Urbanathalon, which is 3 miles + obstacles in November. My friends say it will be "fun". At least I get a t-shirt? Anyway, I just felt like I needed a little extra support in the coming months (and possibly CPR/first aid). I am just keeping in mind that this is to help me achieve the "wedding body" that I wish to have by May, 2012, and of course to be as healthy as I can be! Training starts tomorrow! Happy trails to all! X

Ooh good luck! I'm an avid runner but I've never done a half. If you want motivation, get yourself onto dailymile.com and if you've got an iPhone or Android, download something like Runmeter to track your progress (it's helpful that it'll automatically upload your runs to dailymile, too!). I find it SO helpful and motivating to know exactly how far and fast I'm going, and then be able to track my progress over time.

(I'm squirrellypoo on dailymile, too if you fancy adding me...)

Hi!
Been a few months since folks posted on the thread but just wanted to wish you good luck for next month! I have just bought myself a treadmill and am starting out running - have been thinking about training for a half marathon for later in 2012 as it will give me some motivation. :o

Keep us posted on how you do (and how your training is going!)

That's great, rosie!

Since my earlier post I went and signed up for my first half marathon, too! It's in Paris, the first weekend in March! :D

This past Saturday, I ran the longest I've ever run - nearly 19km (12.7mi) in 1hr42min! I was actually feeling really good by the end of it, too, so I'm feeling pretty positive about the race now... Fingers crossed I don't get ill or injured between now and then!
