Vet signoff- am I missing something??
« on: December 13, 2011, 06:39:10 PM »
Hi All-

We will be moving our dog over in a few weeks (this will be her second trip over) and the last time we did this- 5 years ago I remember we made a special trip to the USDA office to get everything signed and stamped/ embossed by them.  Is this still required?  I can only seem to find info just saying the vet must be USDA approved but nothing about the special office and stamp.

If anyone could clarify for me I'd appreciate it- i think I am just over thinking  something

Yes I believe the EC998 form (third country certificate) must be endorsed by the USDA vet.

My airline company required health certificates, and I also had these endorsed by the USDA vet although this is something you should check with your airline company as requirements vary.

The USDA signoff is what kicks off the 4-month window when the EC 998 form is valid.

Some airlines also need other forms that may/may not need to be signed off by the USDA vet, as Reinadeluz said. You'll need to check what the requirements are for your flight.

Thanks- I thought that's way I needed but when I was reading the info again I only saw the stuff about MY vet signing stuff so got a bit confused there for a moment.

Will also check to see if the airline needs the endorsement as well- I'd be either Continental or Delta if anyone knows??

We flew with Delta last summer. The definitely required the USDA certificate as well as the other forms. Delta also have rules about where you can fly from. IN our case, it had to be from a 'gateway city' which entailed a 9-hour drive from Virginia to Atlanta.

Do you remember if they required the USDA stamp on everything or just the DEFRA form?  With them we will have to use ATL at the gateway city too but I have gotten different information each time I have called about getting our dog there.  NExt week we are planning to get it all figured out and booked so hopefully will get some better answers from them and Continental
