Would love to meet Americans living in the Birmingham area
« on: January 04, 2012, 05:04:11 PM »
I'm 30 (turn 31 in March) and I have been living in the UK for nearly 8 years. I am married to my English husband of nearly 7 years. I actually heard about this forum through a telephone call I received at work. I wish I remembered the name of the person I spoke to! Anyway, I am not usually one to suffer from homesickness but I have been feeling really homesick lately so I thought it would be a great idea to join UK Yankee! If there are any groups that meet in the Birmingham area, I'd be very interested in joining.  :D

Hi - I live in Brum (right in the center)! When I first moved here a little over three years ago, I went to a couple of expat-type events, but a continuous group never materialized :(. I've also asked about setting up a Democrats Abroad for Birmingham, but there doesn't seem to be much interest. I hardly ever meet (or overhear!) another American in Birmingham, so I kinda gave up looking...

I'd love to meet up sometime - it would be really nice to get a group together, or just get drinks if we can't find any others! There are even a couple of places in town that are starting to do a pretty good job with tex-mex, brunch and cajun food!

Hello,

My husband is American, and also an active Democrat.  Maybe you could start a two-person campaign for Obama here in Brum!

Yay, more Americans in Birmingham! :D
American female, nearing 30 but kicking and screaming the entire way, here. I've been here for 6 years in March and am incredibly homesick.
A meetup of some kind would be fantastic.

(My first post on this site, woohoo!)

I am an American living with my British wife near Tamworth on the northeast side of Birmingham. There have been a few attempts for people to meet but it usually doesn't work out. It would be nice to meet some other people in the area. Working from home isn't the best for getting out of the house.

If anyone wants to meet up for a coffee or something in the city center or wherever, I'm up for that.  :)

I have been in Birmingham for nearly three years and haven't met any Americans.  I think it would be great to get a regular group together!  I live here in Hall Green with my English husband and three kids.

Hey - Want to play softball?

Birmingham Bobcats are looking for new players - and there are quite a few American expats playing already. Want to play?

I'm from DeLand Florida myself. Been in Brum 12 years full time, 16 off and on.

We've got a glove for you......

I know this is an old topic, but I just found it! I work in Birmingham and live in Wolverhampton. Maybe we could arrange to meet up after the holidays...maybe in January/February time?

Not sure if this thread ever comes to anything, but I'd also be interested in meeting up in Birmingham sometime in the new year!

Please can we arrange a meet-up?!  It would be fab to just have a meeting of the Americans for some drinks or something.

Everyone is right, the American pickin's are SLIM in the Brum area :(   I just need a jolt of home and to have people around me who actually get my humour!

P.S. I live in Tamworth :)

I would love to meet up with some American girls in Birmingham. I live near the CUBE and MAILBOX. I moved here in November 2014 to be with my English husband. I didn't think that I was going to even be homesick at all, but now I am. I miss Velveeta shells and cheese so much! lol. Where can I get a stupid box of real mac and cheese around here?! Anyway...I am about to pull my hair out from feeling isolated and I know that if I could just have an American chat then it would make me feel better :)
