FYI-Settlement Visa for Stepchild
« on: February 09, 2012, 08:44:21 PM »
Just so that any of you applying for a visa for a spouse and step-child know....I sent off our application last week along with that I sent a notarized letter from my ex giving me permission to take my daughter to England to live.
Today I received an email stating that was NOT sufficient and that I need custody papers showing SOLE custody. So now I am scrambling to get that in time as I have 2 weeks to get it back to NY. I was going off of peoples experiences here and thought we were set. Now, I don't know if I just have a stickler for rules handling my case or not...but I thought you all should know that a notarized letter isn't cutting it right now.
I now have to get my ex to sign sole custody to me....and get it filed ASAP at the courts. :(

Oh, and I figured three months of pay stubs would be enough..but she wants the one now that he just got...as well as his contract, which is through an employment agency for three months at a time on a rolling contract. WE know he is staying there as he is needed and the person who's job he is doing isn't coming back, but he has yet to be offered a full contract.
Now I'm not sure what to do.

I'm so stressed. Sorry I keep going on. But...this original letter of employment really worries me. Glyn has a good job...he's paid well, but he has yet to be offered a permanent contract. His original 3 month contract has been extended but for another 3 months. Its a damn good job that we know is going to be permanent...it just hasn't been offered yet. It would be silly for him to leave it because its not permanent yet...and be paid less maybe?? For not such a good place.
Again, sorry I'm ranting....I just feel like I could cry. :\\\'(

I would send the contract that you have, and explain that the nature of the job is on rolling contracts that will become permanent. Maybe get a letter from his boss assuring them that they intend to keep him on?

Well, hubby has spoken to his manager at work. He doesn't want to lose Glyn so he is having HR draft up a letter for the immigration officer.

The new custody agreement is now in my hands and filled out just waiting on the ex to sign it when I pick him up from the airport this afternoon. Then I will run to the courthouse and get it submitted. Along with that I am sending a letter to the officer handling our case explaining how I have been my daughters sole carer and that the last time I left her behind when I lived in the UK she ended up under the care of a child psychologist. Hopefully that will be adequate. Don't know what else to do.
