Just finished French Relations by Fiona Walker, and starting on the sequel, Well Groomed. It's pretty rambly and soap opera-ish, which doesn't thrill me, but the main character is an event rider, so horses appear every so often. ;) Given that FR was 800 pages and WG is 600 pages, it's quite long for basically what amount to "fluff" books, and I find myself wanting to smack some of the characters, but at least the horse stuff seems reasonably accurate.

Oxfam is having a clearance sale on books (£1/each) to make room for their christmas stuff

Well, thank you for that dangerous news. I'm going into town to do some errands tomorrow morning and there's a lovely big Oxfam bookshop. Uh-oh.

Soulless by Gail Carriger

I wouldn't call it highbrow, but it's entertaining!

Oooh, jealous! It's not available at my library yet, so I may break down and order it from Amazon.

I read it a few years ago and liked it, but that was before Julia Roberts.  ;D

I'm reading The Good Thief. So far, so good.

And thanks for the Oxfam tip!

I just finished Kasauo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go and thought it was absolutely lovely. I'm a bit annoyed with myself for not having read any Ishiguro before now but think I'll be going through all of his work soon.

I wouldn't say I enjoyed reading it exactly, but it was amazing. I had nightmares that I was in the story for several nights while I was reading it.

I loved it as well when I read it many many pages of this thread ago, I thought it was absolutely beautiful and just felt so real. Ishiguro is fabulous anyway, his catalogue is totally worth going through although a bit hit and miss!

If you read the Unconsoled let me know what you think, I absolutely adored it, but it was really panned, it has this surreal dreaminess which I really connected with. Everyone also has something negative to say about When we were orphans, mostly that it's his "worst" novel, but even at his worst he is good and often brilliant.

An artist of the floating world may be a better place to start :) Followed by A pale view of Hills...and of course The remains of the day

I want to see the movie of Never, as well as I've heard it's quite good, although watching the trailer I'm not so sure, everyone seems a little too beautiful :)

I hated this book too. I thought I must be the only one!

I'm currently reading 'My Life in France' by Julia Child which is excellent. Had been meaning to pick it up for a while and found it on the 'book share' shelf at my office the other day.

I've avoided Eat, Pray, Love like the plague because I absolutely know that I'd hate it!

My Life in France, however, is pretty wonderful. Julia is Queen!

I'm just about to start Purple Hibiscus. Has anyone read it?

Ooh, thanks for those suggestions! I'll have to head to Amazon, pick up a few of those titles and report back.

I'm thinking of seeing the film of Never Let Me Go, just to see how they do it. UKY London cinema night, anyone?  :)
