Pumpkin Pie:

Ingredients:
ready-made pastry case
1/4 chopped pumpkin into 2 cm squares
1 tablespoon treacle
50g soft brown sugar
a small pot of double-cream
2 eggs

Method:
Ask a grown-up to preheat the oven to 180 Celsius. 360 F/ gas mark 4. Place a baking tray inside to warm it.
Ask a grown-up to boil the pumpkin in a saucepan for about 5 minutes until soft.
Drain and mash up the pumpkin in a bowl with a potato masher.
Crack two eggs into another bowl and whisk until frothy.
Ask a grown-up to heat the treacle, sugar and cream in a saucepan. Simmer for about 2 minutes and mix with a spoon.
Pour the cream mixture into the whisked eggs and whisk again. Add the pumpkin and stir together well. Transfer the whole mixture to a jug.
Pour the mixture into the pastry case and put in to the oven for 35 - 45 minutes.

OMG - my husband loves to watch Big Cook Little Cook with my 10 year old.  They laugh so hard...great way to start the morning!  ;)  (And it keeps them both out of my way whilst I get ready!)

Mmm, that recipe sounds yummy! I made Andy a pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving last year in England. It was the first time he ever had it. I will try that recipe this year; thanks for sharing!  :-*

eep! Pumpkin pie from scratch? I'm not trying that this year.

I'm still wondering how it was that I actually volunteered to make a "thanksgiving" dinner when i have never actually cooked anything in the UK? Ack!

I'll be visiting my boyfriend Nov 6th -13th and at first was just going to make pumpkin pie... somehow this turned into turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce etc.

This should be interesting!

I'd hardly call wishing to avoid the hassle of deboning an entire turkey "cheating" LOL and where I come from it's not real cranberry sauce unless it's got the marks from the Ocean Spray can on it  ;D

Glad you're going to help though :-*

anyone know where to find frozen premade pie crusts in the disposable pie tin?  I'd rather avoid having to bring a pie tin and making crust from scratch (I usually use frozen ones here)

Just go to the fridge section of your local supermarket and get some premade shortcrust pastry.  All you have to do is roll it out, pop it in a pan and bake it.  Easy as...well...pie.  :)

Good luck!  I have a feeling you're in for quite an adventure.  :)

Or, you can buy a ready made pie crust in a tin in the baking section(not frozen).

Thanks! I'll have Alex look around to see if anyplace near him has one.  Don't think I've ever seen pie crust in the baking aisle here, just the graham cracker ones for cheesecake

They have a baking section in most UK grocery stores located in cold cases, sort of where you would find ready made cookie dough in the States.

You can find Ocean Spray cranberry sauce, as well.  Sainsbury's carries it.

Well I looked in Tescos and couldn't see any pie crusts. Short cust patry is so easy to make, I'm not buying frozen pastry. Just need to get a pie tin now.
