One of the reasons I've stopped eating ground beef unless I have the butcher at the local market grind up a roast if I need ground meat for something.  And the reason why I stay away from "chicken" nuggets and anything in general that has mechanically separated meat as an "ingredient."

It's just disgusting beyond belief.  Yuck.

Heh. High meat.

Well, I doubt that most of the things on here would allow people to live long term on them.  Although I might be willing to try.   :)

Also, according to the NHS potatoes do contain molybdenum, just not as much as those that grow above ground.  It looks like it depends on how much is in the soil.

But no one claimed you could live on the other things for any length of time at all, it was just picking your favourite for flavour's sake. However potatoes were said to be a good choice because you could live on potatoes with the addition of dairy without suffering the ill effects of malnutrition, so I thought I'd look it up (okay I was bored!) :) Looking at it I also think it depends on the dairy as well as where the potatoes are grown, as yoghurt also has molybdenum in it due to fermentation, so with the small amounts in the potatoes grown in the right soil and the small amounts in yoghurt, maybe you could long term? It would be quite weird/dull though :)

Anyone seen Food Inc? It talks about the pink slime, and what I found more shocking the tiny amount of slaughter houses in the US and how refined this process had become over time  and just how many cows you're probably eating in one burger. The most shocking thing I saw was the seed patenting and it's effect on nearby farmers.

I'm quite thankful I don't eat processed meat or shop in an American supermarket, where all the different brands of meat are basically coming from the same few slaughterhouses. We only get organic or free range meat at home, but I'm aware that that's often ecology  unsound or probably not what I think I'm buying, it tastes better though and I like supporting local butchers wherever I can. Dunno. Complicated, I should do more research into where my food is coming from, I do try, but it's not always very clear. :)

Pork pies from the local butchers, or bacon sandwiches.

Seeing people comment on offal. We've been buying it quite a bit recently because it's such good value. A meal for 2 for 60p! There was a piece on the radio yesterday saying how sales had gone up. Love some liver and bacon with Yorkshire pudding!  ;D

Recently I had been thinking about what I'd really like to eat if I had my 'druthers. Basically it would be pretty much a peasant diet with Bircher muesli for breakfast, soup or salad or bread and cheese for lunch and more muesli for supper. Topped off with a piece of dark chocolate  [smiley=laugh.gif] (I don't mean the muesli out of a box but the kind you make from soaking oats and adding apples or berries or nuts)

That's definitely the best kind.  I keep telling hubby that I need to get back to doing just that.   ;D
