Question Regarding Weight Watchers

Hi Everyone,

I joined weight watchers about 2 weeks ago and had my first weigh in last week.. I lost 8 pounds in the first week!! I am/was so excited!  I just had a question though. What happens if you can't eat all of your points?  Is it best to eat all your points even if it will make you very stuffed?

Any help would definitely be appreciated!

Congratulations!  That is wonderful!  Yes, you are suppose to eat all of your points.  You won't lose weight any faster as you go if you don't, in fact, you can either go into a quick plateau, or even gain weight.  I started not eating my points target, and I was on a plateau for ages!  I even gained weight over two weeks.  If you're getting alot of activity, you're suppose to eat those points as well, but if you're doing mild activity, then you can get away without eating those earned points.  I've been doing it for nine months now, and have lost a total of 33 pounds, and 4 dress sizes!  ;)

I do not know much about weight watchers these days...its been about 12 years since I belonged to them last...  but I know a lot of people enjoy it...and I hear the points are important.
Logic is one thing, it keeps us in control!

You're definitely supposed to eat all of your points. If you don't get enough, Mrs. Fizz is right - you'll probably plateau a lot faster. I lost 6 lbs. my first week, gained .5 the next, then lost another 4.5 - and I actually ate (well, OK, drank) a few extra points nearly every day, but I was also exercising.... I'm doing it on my own now though - I couldn't deal with the meetings..... Congrats on your success!

Hi Guys thanks!!! I'm trying to eat all of my points but it's not very easy because it feels like I'm eating more then I used to eat. But I have to say that I'm eating the same amount of points that I had been eating before my first weigh in.   It's just about 4 points less then what I was told to eat if that makes sense.  So I guess what I'm asking is if I'm still using the same points that I lost the first week with is that ok?  I guess it's just best for me to see how the weigh in goes tomorrrow! I'll let you guys know :-)..
I'm also exercising, once a week I go to a body conditioning class and an aerobics class.  I walk a lot as well (I guess that's the benefit of not having a car!)

One other little prob. with not eating all of your points on a regular basis is that when you get down to a certain weight you may be told to lower your points a bit in order to keep losing (though that won't happen for a little while). So if you're already at that lower figure, you'll have to lower even more and then you might be losing out on nutrients and vitamins and stuff. Maybe you can find a slightly higher points substitute for something you eat everyday? Also, you could note how many points you're "saving" each day and then go out for a nice meal at the weekend or something?

And in answer to your question, yes, eating the same points week to week is the right thing to do unless your weight drops and stabilizes at a certain place - and the person weighing you in will tell you when to adjust your points down.... I lose consistently on the prescribed points I have - but I've had a lot of social stuff going on lately and so I've plateaued a bit due to eating a bit more and drinking too much wine.  :o

You should buy a pedometer - mine is my new obsession - I love it. I'm aiming for about 10,000 steps a day and it's unbelievably hard to do!!! But a good challenge!

Thanks for the reply, I only lost 1pound today so I guess I'll go to eating all the points that were given to me.  I figured out a way to eat it all the points anyway... I think I will stick an avacado in my salad and that will be a fruit and extra points at the same time!!! :-)

Check out weightwatchers.com the boards there are free - you don't have to pay to use them and the advice is fabulous! Be careful - you can get addicted ;)

Anyone find weightwatchers harder/easier to do in the UK? I'll be moving there in 8 months and am an active ww member here in the states. Thanks!

I have used Weight Watchers off and on when I find my weight loss has been stalling out or---horrors!---creeping back up again. Personally, I found it very difficult to try to use US materials here, so I purchased UK Weight Watchers stuff and it is very easy to follow. I recommend buying new stuff when you move.

I definitely like the UK version better than the USA version. To me it's cut and dry and easier to understand. Last year when I was in the USA, I noticed that USAWW had some kind of kick start process at the beginning of the diet where you could eat low-carb or do something else. It was a real turn off for me for some reason. I just felt that WW had succumbed to market demands and added the low carb option in to try and gain new members--that's fine, but it just didn't suit me as the reason I joined WW was b/c I hated the low-carb diets out there. I kind of felt that WWUSA was in the midst of an identity crisis. Are they still doing this?

ww usa has 2 programs now.  a 'core' where you don't count individual points, a ton of foods are no points and you just count carb-y foods.

also the flex points, which i hated.  where you get a set number a day, then however many flex a week.  i found i was not estimatnig right and wasn't losing at all on flex.

so i joined ww UK when i moved here, only to learn they are changing their program as at 1 january.  bugger.   >:(

Oh my gosh, I just did a bit of searching around to learn about this 'core foods' lark. Way to make a beautiful thing complicated!! I will stick with my old-fashioned point counting! Is anyone here using the core foods thingy??

carla, i'm not entirely sure they will be going to core....but they may.

but if points works for you, as it does for me then stick to that!!!! it's simple and effective!
