docs for citizenship
« on: March 26, 2012, 05:17:21 PM »
I was just looking over the required documentation for citizenship, and got a pleasant surprise.  I thought it would be like ILE/ILR, with all the bills and bank statements showing proof of address and living with spouse, etc.  Seems there’s nothing there at all of that sort, except documents relating to employment, or bank statements if you are self-sufficient (I suppose that means either with pots of money, or the other spouse is the main wage earner).
Have I missed something?  Does this mean we don’t have to insist on having both names on all the utilities?  Does it mean we can go paperless on bills after all, and stop hoarding every scrap of paper with my/his name and address on it?  Okay, it’s still three years off, but utility companies are giving discounts for paperless, and I’d rather be green anyway.
The only other thing that puzzled me was having to show proof of “sickness insurance” (for self-sufficient persons).  Why would we need that, if ILE/ILR gives us full rights to use the NHS?

Yes, the Citizenship application is refreshingly document-light.   Where did you see the reference to sickness insurance?

You're probably reading the information regarding those who have come on the EEA route. Make sure you're reading the requirements for the 'spouse of a British Citizen' and not confusing it the EEA Requirements.

Ah, right.  The reference to sickness insurance was on page 15 of the application guide -- and, thanks, WebyJ, this is the part for Switzerland/EEA.  So that means I can go paperless on the bank statements, too!  ;D
