I totally thought of this thread as I packed some of my Container Store hangers this weekend! :D

I'm still debating on bringing the wooden skirt/pants hanger ones I got from Ikea, though, since I could replace them there. It's just the money factor...

I hate the felt ones

I can't even find felt ones! But I love them because my clothes don't fall off the hangers in the wardrobe. Most of mine are wooden ones - either from the US or the UK. Plastic ones are just a step up from WIRE HANGERS in my book.

But really, is there a difference between American and British hangers?? If so, I have yet to figure that out. I brought most of mine over with me, but that's because I had a whole container full of furniture to ship and so I just brought *everything*. And, for me, having the room to bring them, it made no sense to replace something I already had.

I have some of these and can't find anything close to them in the UK or a UK website.  Anyone ever seen them?  I will have to bring some over if I can't find a replacement.  I did see some generic spacesaver/felt ones on Amazon.co.uk but no idea if the quality is ok.

TBH, I doubt you will find Container Store quality hangers anywhere besides there! That's why I'm bringing my basic plastic ones (higher quality plastic and thicker, Chary!)

Funny thing is, I mentioned this thread to my fiance and he totally didn't get it! I told him part of it was just having MY hangers... just having some familiar everyday things really makes a difference, I think.

Oh, and Joiya, I'm in GA, too! We probably shop at the same Container Store! (I used to work at the Perimeter Mall one for about 5 years!) :)

Funny! Maybe I'll see you in the hanger aisle one day. ;)

I've also been telling DH that yes, it seems silly for me to ship these things over, but it's about having everyday things of mine around me. (I think I got that from a post above.) It's really quite comforting to pack these things, and makes the stress of eliminating other "favorite" things a little easier. I am still debating about bringing over my solid brass whale door stop that I love. He's about 4" high and 8" long. But I LOVE HIM!

That link does not work for me Meghan, but you're entitled to bring whatever it is that makes you happy. Hangers, doorstops, whatever! :)

I had WAY more closet space when I lived in the US so fat hangers were fine. Here, I find that using the ultra thin ones make more sense as I can hang more items. That's why I mentioned them, but perhaps you have more closet space or less clothes than me.  :)

Yes! Bring him!! I read this thread to the fiance yesterday and was explaining to him that having something familiar just means it's *one less thing* to have to adjust to. I know it's such a small thing, but when I move, the first things I will get in order will be my closet and the kitchen. If both are those are happy zones, then I can deal with the rest if that makes sense! I got a set of Beatles pint glasses for my birthday from a good friend. THOSE are coming with me, too. :)

Most definitely bring the whale! :) You'd be amazed how comforting the sight of things you love is, during the adjustment period. Even if you are lucky enough to be one of those people who adapt immediately (overall) there will still be small moments here and there where just the sight of something familiar brings a moment of peace and a sense that you aren't in a NEW life, but in a new chapter of your life.

Hooray! The whale gets to go!  ;D Now that we are making the move back to the States, we've made sure to include some things we have gotten while here that have happy memories attached to them, when packing up to ship/to put in suitcases.

The ones I use are nothing special - just bought them at Walmart. But they have the dips in the shoulders for skinny sleeves to get caught in - that way stuff doesn't slip off if you don't want it to, but you can remove clothes easily when you do want to.
I also find that plastic hangers slide easier on the rail - everything else seems to stick or get hung up (pun intended) when you trying to push everything to one side. I detest wire hangers.
