Grade translators in the UK
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:54:02 PM »
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone here can recommend an institution in the UK that translates UK qualifications and then sends them off to the American institution you've applied for, and how much it would cost
No \"atmosphere\" where you work? <br />yeah I get that a lot

What are you wanting to do?

I think you need the receiving country to do the translating of marks, IYKWIM, so if you're talking about the US, I'd start with the US based educational institution's advice as to where to get degree translation.

For example:

or

maybe:

Hi well I want to study at UNM New Mexico and CNM New Mexico, but initially I only wanted to go to CNM but they don't issue I-20's is there any other kind if visa I can get to study there???? like an extended 6 month visa??? or anything like that  :-\\\\

UNM issue I-20's and I was thinking of going there eventually but there has to be a way to study at a college that doesnt issue I-20's obviously 3 month tourist visa isn't, if theres any possible way please suggest it to me, that doesn't involve marrying a US citizen or something ridicolous like investing one million dollars into the US stock market or Jeez idk, help me out please guys

What's wrong with getting the visa to study at UNM? I don't see why you wouldn't want to do that.

There isn't any way around it - if they don't issue I-20s then that means that the US government hasn't approved them as a sponsor for student visas and so they cannot accept any international students. If CNM doesn't issue I-20s or DS-2019s then I'm afraid you're going to have to find somewhere else to study.

If you don't already live in the US on a different visa, there are only 2 ways you can study in the US:

- on an F-1 student visa (which you need an I-20 for)

- on a J-1 exchange visa (which you need a DS-2019 for) (this is for short-term exchanges, such as a pre-organised study-abroad year)

[I studied at UNM on a J-1 exchange visa (with a DS-2019) in 2003/04 and then later on an F-1 student visa (with an I-20) in 2008]

If CNM isn't an approved sponsor for issuing I-20s then it's unlikely they will be approved to issue DS-2019s either (you can check here: http://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/).

I'm not sure if you realise, but CNM is a community college, rather than a university (it's essentially the US equivalent of a Further Education College). Community colleges usually only offer 2-year associates degrees (equivalent to an HND or foundation degree in the UK) and so often students will do two years at a community college first and then go on to a university to complete a full 4-year bachelors degree.

It sounds like CNM does not cater for international students, so you're just going to have to give up on that idea, I'm afraid.

Unfortunately not, if you try to study at a school without a valid I-20 (or a DS-2019), you will be breaking the law. You cannot get a student visa without one and you cannot study in the US without a student visa. You must have both a valid I-20 (or DS-2019) and an F-1 (or J-1) student visa in your passport in order to be let into the country and to register with the university (the university's international office will check and photocopy your documents when you arrive).

meh, ok well then I guess its on to plan B, I was going to do a level 3 diploma in engineering at my local college here for 2 years as I am entitled to a free level 3 course so then when I apply for UNM I have more chance of getting in because at the moment I have only really got GCSE's, including 2 in Science, but its kind of frustrating though as my friend is going to CNM, I even got admitted to the engineering program there but with no way of legally doing it :(, oh well I'll just wait to go to UNM after I've completed my 2 year course here
