home or overseas fees?
« on: July 07, 2012, 08:46:55 PM »
Hi guys,

I've read loads of information on being a home student vs. overseas fee payer and I'm still really confused.

I've been a student since 2008 but got married to DH in 2009 and wasn't able to change to a spouse because of the previous 21 years minimum rule (for flr(m)) so was only able to switch to flr(m) status in 2011. This is my fourth year living here. I've applied to different unis in the past that have assessed me as a home fee payer but my master's program seems to have assessed me as an overseas payer. Am I not eligible to be a home fee payer at the moment? Any help on my unique situation would be much appreciated :).

Tia!

As I understand it, there's no one rule for everyone, and each university assesses students differently.  Also as I understand it, some unis require three years' residence, and freedom from immigration restrictions, which means you wouldn't get home fees until you have ILR.  Plus, I believe that time as a student doesn't count as being resident, so you wouldn't be able to start counting until 2011.

When we used to assess people for the research council, they had to have ILR.
