Black strap molasses
« on: July 09, 2012, 02:47:45 PM »
Is treacle (the darker one, forget the name) the same as black strap molasses? I'm interested specifically for the iron continent, to mix in with shakes, as I'm having issues this pregnancy with keeping iron levels up.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if it's the same, but black treacle does have high levels of iron, 78% daily value in a 100g serving.

Try a half pint of Guinness?? My friend's iron was low and her midwife recommended this.

I almost wish my iron was low so I could justify this!  :)

I don't think they are the same, but you can get blackstrap at health food stores, like Holland and Barrett, here.
