Baby's first British passport

How long did they take to get back? Do you think 6 weeks will be enough time? My DH's friend who countersigned for ours put the wrong middle name on the back of the photo so I have had to post another photo to him and wait for him to send it back. We fly out on 14 September and I'm hoping to get the passport sent away by next week at the latest, which is about 7 weeks before we go. Do you think I have reason to be concerned about it not coming back in time?

Should be fine. Think both of ours only took about two weeks to get the British ones back.

I emailed them the other day, they say it should be about three weeks at the moment.

I fly on the 7th September so fingers crossed.  I left it 9 weeks before (week after he was born).

Went via the Post Office on June 26th, and got it back exactly 3 weeks later.

Might take a bit longer with the Olympics, but I think you will be fine.

Posted mine 6th July, it arrived today.  So just under three weeks, didn't pay for check/send and took my own photo.

Well, after much faffing around with the countersignatory who lives in another city (he put the wrong name on the back of her photo so I had to post another photo for him to sign, then I signed it a different date from the date he signed it and had to send him another application to sign and wait for it to come back), I finally have everything I need to get the passport and we travel in exactly one month. I'm planning to do the expedited service so we get it back in one week, just in case, since the last time I went to the post office (with the wrong date on the application) they said it was taking 4 weeks. Fingers crossed this all works out, I just got her US passport today so we are all good on that one!

I did the in-person application for my baby's first passport. Our appointment was on a Thursday and her passport was delivered on the following Tuesday - great success! So I think you'll be fine. Another thing to put your mind at ease (possibly) is that you could always travel OUT on her US passport (which you have to do anyways) and then have someone from the UK post you her UK passport to your holiday destination in the states when it arrives from the gov't. I don't know how that would work logistically (someone fetching the mail for you, etc) but who knows!

We sent off the application on the 7th of August, and used the Check & Send service.  The passport was delivered today - so we're talking about around 3.5 weeks. Our friend who countersigned the application had also made a small mistake on the form, which he crossed out, so we thought it would be even longer.  Good luck!

We just went and applied in person, just to be on the safe side. We ended up getting an appointment on Sunday (strange). It only took a couple of minutes after about a 10 minute wait, we were in and out! And then they said it would take 8 days, but we got it 2 days later on the Tuesday morning!  I'm really glad we just did it that way, even though it cost twice as much. It was so fast and easy and I didn't have to sit around stressing about whether or not the passport would come back in time. Now I just have to stress out about whether or not I've packed everything. 

Hi, I was actually wondering who you went with for the circumcision? My husband and I are in a similar situation and need to get our sons passport too etc. my husband is Jewish but I am not and we are both from California living in Milton Keynes.. Sorry to bug ya, but it seems like getting all the kinks worked out for a newborn in the UK is a bit of a challenge..
