Wood Green, London area
« on: July 29, 2012, 03:56:18 PM »
Hiya. I am trying to get to Wood Green from Pontefract. I know Wood Green is in north London, or north of London, not sure which.  Some distant family members will be in that area for 2 days and if I can get there easily enough, I will go meet them.

When I looked up Wood Green, I found there is a tube station there on the Picadilly line. However, I will be taking a regular train from Pontefract to London.  I have never been to London, nor anywhere near there.  DH has only been once or twice, many, many years ago.

I don't have the slightest clue where I am going (if, in fact, I do go). DH doesn't know the area either.   Anyone have any suggestions or know where I can transfer from regular train to tube? (What is the tube - a subway?) Thanks!

No, drats. My ex-sister in law initially said, "Meet us in London."  Uh, okay. Where?  "Just get off at the main London stop. We'll be there."  UH, WHAT?!  LOL!

THEN she found out it is Wood Green where they will be. I'll have to call Florida again and ask her for some more specifics.

From Pontefract you'd arrive in London at King's Cross station, which is good because then all you have to do is follow the signs to the Underground (i.e. "tube", and yes, it's a subway) part of the station and get on the Piccadilly Line going toward Cockfosters.  You should be at Wood Green underground station in about 15 minutes.

Not sure if it helps, but I lived in Wood Green for a while, and it's in N22.

My mother grew up in Wood Green and my grandparents were there until 1999.If youre willing to take the walk up, Id definitely suggest a visit to Alexandra Palace. Its massive and has some AMAZING views of London..

Thanks to everyone for the info. I'm still not sure I'm going (a walk, 2 trains, a subway, and another walk, is a bit much for me) but I'm still thinking about it.  At least if I go now, I'll know where I'm going and what I'm doing! :)

Thanks!
