Cremation or ??
« on: September 12, 2012, 02:09:23 AM »
I'm sorry if this is not the best place to post this question.

In 2007 my OH and I had a devastating loss. We were pregnant and we lost our baby girl the day before she was due, because of a cord accident.

I had to go through with the birth and as you can imagine, the next year was probably the darkest time that we've had to endure. But we did endure and we've since been lucky to have two wonderful children.

Our first daughter was buried just three blocks from here and now we are planning to move to my OH's home in the UK. We are sure this will be our final move and wish to take our first daughter with us rather than leaving her on her own here in the USA.

I don't know where to start. Do we have her exhumed and then cremated so we can make arrangements for her in the UK? I am clueless. Can anyone shed light on this situation?

Thank you.

I've never done this myself but I believe you will first need permission to open a grave and remove the remains. Call your local government office to find out who you need to speak to.

edited to ad: A local funeral home would also be a good place to ask. I bet they'd know what the procedures are.

There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

Thank you Ashley. Good idea. I'll start with the funeral home we used in 2007. I appreciate you writing back. Take care. PS

also be aware that there will be paperwork for transporting the cremains. The funeral home should also know what to do.

All the best.
