I'm going to try boiling some weeds out from between the paving stones in the back garden tomorrow as well. Can't get too close to what I have planted though!

This is supposed to work great!
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I hope so! I'm getting tired of them poking up between the paving stones... I still have a lot of work to do out in the back garden. Dug up 2 bucketfuls of rocks out of about a 16 inch square of dirt...

I also use it for my pet rabbit who has respiratory problems. I put him in his carrier and put a bowl of boiling water from the kettle in front and a towel over the whole thing. Really helps him on his bad days.

Awww!  I've always wanted to ask you what you are holding in your avatar. Is it your bunny? My eyes aren't so good. :(

Yeah, I have 3! :) I raised them from birth (as well as their siblings and cousins - once had 18), because I fostered their pregnant momma. The one who has respiratory problems was orphaned at 8 days, so I took him on then and surrogate-fed from the others' mom. The one in the picture is Evander Hopsinafield when he was a baby (named by DH because his mom bit one of his ears off when he was born). Now he's bigger than my MIL's yorkies. ;D

That's funny!  ;D

I have to confess, I once used it to boil beer.  [smiley=blush.gif]

I thought of something else.  When my husband changes the water in the fish tank he pours the old water into the kitchen sink (which I think is gross  [smiley=puke.gif] ), so we boil the kettle and sterilize the sink and the area all around it after he's done.

I feel like I've been living in a hole this whole time!!!  Maybe its because we don't use boiling water for a lot of things haha- but thanks for all the replies!!!

I can say that I've seen people on a frosty morning poring it over their cars windows to get the ice off

That's a great way for them to crack their windscreens.  :-X

Cute! :) We struggled with a name for him. He was called One Ear for the first 8 weeks of his life, until I couldn't bear to give him up for adoption so we had to give him a proper name. I wasn't sold on Evander until DH came up with the "Hopsinafield" part. ;) Then I couldn't help it. We just call him Evie most of the time. Poor guy is having issues with his non-ear/nub though - just posted about it in IA.  :-\\\\

Boiling the water for the hottie was critical when I was in the UK/Ireland! I'm actually sad that my house in the US is a bit better insulated and no hotties are necessary here. I miss it!  :P I used it for all of the things mentioned above (except bunny issues, no bunnies here!). We do use it to boil water to clean out the cat's litter box.

Electric kettles are really expensive in the US, but when we first moved here we were at Aldi and they had some for $20! Score!

They really are! I managed to get nice stainless one at Target for about $25. There was one there that was legitimately the same exact cheapo plastic kettle as the £4 Argos one I had in Scotland and they were trying to sell that for $20. No way!
