Nervous about leaving UK for holiday
« on: October 03, 2012, 09:18:25 PM »
I'm planning on visiting my family in the US in a few months.  This will be the first time I've left the UK since I came here.  I was originally a student and now have a post-study work visa.  The thing is, I haven't been able to bring myself to book the tickets because it's making me nervous.  I know I probably have nothing to worry about, it's just the stress of applying for my student visa and then my current visa has stuck with me.  I'm so paranoid they'll stop me at the airport coming back and not let me through.  Just thinking about going to the airport is making me fall apart.  Has anyone felt like this?  I do want to visit my family (it's been two years since I was last in the US), and they'll be upset if I don't go, but I feel terrified right now.

I currently have a post study work visa and I've felt the same way, but you have nothing to worry about. I am currently at the airport awaiting my flight to go back to the UK after a wedding in the states. I also went to the states in June and didn't have a job when I flew back to the UK on my PSW. No problems at the airport. The guy wished me luck on my job hunt. :-) so as long as your visa is valid, you shouldn't worry. :-)

I never had any problems returning when I had a visa.  Your visa has been approved.  You have permission to stay in the UK.  Go on your holiday, have a nice time and then come back.  You won't get any grief from an IO. No one is going to question the validity of your visa.

It'll be ok. :)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I can see why you'd be nervous, but it should hopefully all go OK -
They may ask you questions about work, etc to make sure the terms of the visa are still OK.  As long as you have nothing to hide, than all should be straightforward (hopefully).  I'm on a work visa and I've been questioned a few times about details of my job, etc.  I had one who was really drilling me, but 95% of the times its been pleasant or at least easy enough to come back through.
Good luck!

I'm leaving this weekend and just wanted to say thanks so, so much to everyone for your replies.  I know it's silly, but it's really nice to feel reassured.  Thank you!!
