Need prescription meds for child for 4 months, going abroad
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:20:16 PM »
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.  My daughter is on prescription medicine daily and we are going back home to the USA for 4 months next month.  Does anyone know if the GP here will give me a prescription for her for the full 4 months in advance or if I have to use the health system in the USA to get this (by referral from GP here)?

Many Thanks

You can get them here. Just explain to your GP that you're going to the US for a few months and you'll get the amount you need. I've done this before.

Ok, thanks!  Whew such a relief!
I really didn't want to have to deal with the costly health system back home, especially cause the travel insurance policies wouldn't cover it as it would be considered a pre-existing condition.

Thanks again :)

No worries! I would request it at least a couple of weeks in advance; you may need an appointment with the doctor to get the prescription, and the chemist may not have it in the quantities you need, so give yourself enough time!
