Renting a car...
« on: February 10, 2013, 10:28:57 PM »
We have a visit planned to go and see family in the US in May.  We have a bit of a dilemma regarding transportation while we are there.  We will be there for 10 days.

We are looking at renting a car, however my Maryland license will have expired by then.  Will I be able to rent a car from Enterprise ect...on my UK License and will I have to pay loads extra because of it and for insurances??

Second scenario is my sister said I can borrow her car, however I am not sure how insurance would work with my having a UK license.

Third scenario is attempting to renew my Maryland license online, however the website says that because my driver number is not linked to a car, they are unable to proceed.

I know you can drive in the US on a UK license for 30 days.

Any advice greatly appreciated!!

You can usually book rental cars at cheaper rates (with a UK license) on UK sites (expedia.co.uk, etc).

Don't know about your other questions, but I know for MD licenses they only allow certain people (don't know the criteria, as it seems shrouded in mystery) to renew online - everyone else has to go through the lovely experience at the DMV (which usually includes proving you live in MD with official mail, etc).

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks, will look at .co.uk websites.

I have read all the criteria for renewing MD license online and I seem to meet it all apart from the fact that my drivers number is not linked to a car.
