Well I LOVE all of these positive feedbacks. What I want to know is, if you all did meet online, how did you tell your family about it? Even though I am in my 30s, I still am hesitant to tell people. Even in this day and age of technology, meeting online is still viewed as a strange concept in some places. My mother doesn't even use a computer and she is very proud to proclaim it to everyone (even when they give her funny looks). It's like she is proud NOT to know how. But as I am in my 30s, I am an adult and can make choices, good or bad and deal with the consequences. But I do respect my family and would hope that if this did proceed, that they would be happy for me. I have yet to decide if he is coming here, to my hometown or if we might meet up in the town my brother lives in. My brother, being retired from the military, is more worldly and open to such things and it would save us the headache of having to meet the WHOLE family. I want to focus more on us getting to know one another and NOT having him grilled like a criminal :)

My husband and I met online - and it was a sort of LDR, though not a trans-Atlantic one. I was in Wales and he was in England. We met in 2004 and got married in 2009.

I just told people. I was a little nervous about it, but that turned out to be completely silly on my part because nobody was the least bit shocked. I think perhaps people are more open-minded than you think!

And since then, three of my cousins have married people they met online.  :)

I met my husband on another internet forum.  He was in FL and I was in CA.  We chatted daily for about 6 weeks before I flew to meet him.  I didn't want to get more invested if it wasn't going to work.  He flew back to meet my family about 2 months later.  We got engaged 4 months after we met online, he moved in a month later.

We've been married 5 years this summer.

It's not always easy.  I think it was harder to live together before we were married than after.  But it was worth it.  As chary said earlier this week, he's my lobster.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Well he told his brother about me yesterday. I said "What did he say?"  And he said his brother said go for it.....yay. :)

So I think we will be booking the flight any day now. It's his birthday today. *sigh*

Hope you all are having a lovely day wherever you are!  :D

It's a quote from Friends - in one episode Phoebe was talking about how lobsters fall in love and mate for life and how Ross and Rachel were meant to be, just like lobsters.... 'See? He's her lobster!' was a quote from the episode :P : He's her Lobster!

I think the lobster line is probably only recognised by people of a certain age.  ;)

What age is that, then?  ;)

Well I am in my 30s......does that qualify me to be "of a certain age"  lol  I never thought of myself in those terms. Ay yi yi.

Well, Friends went off the air 8 years ago and the 'lobster' episode aired 16 years ago ... so you do the math! ;)

I'm in my 20s (although not for much longer) and I know all the Friends episodes pretty much by heart... It was the main show that my friends and I used to watch when we were at school (it was on Sky One back then and only one of my friends had satellite, so she used to record it on the VCR and we'd share the tape around afterwards). I was aged 12 when the show started (I began watching it at 13) and 22 when it ended :P.

Although Friends reruns aren't too hard come by.
