Better late than never, right?
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:32:46 PM »
Hello all--

I found UK-Yankee in October, when I was 3 months into what would be a 7.5 month wait for my Further Leave to Remain to be granted.  I'm grateful for all the support and information sharing that my FLR(M) buddies provided, and all the support given by other members of the community.

I've realized now that I never introduced myself, so I thought I should do so.  Hello!  I'm a native of the U.S. East Coast who moved to the UK in early 2012 to be with my now-husband.  We met when I was studying in London in the mid-2000s.  At this moment, we're getting ready to move from an outer London suburb up to Liverpool.  The move feels like an adventure on top of the adventure of moving to the UK, and I am looking forward to it.  Well, I'm not looking forward to the actual *moving* part, but I'm looking forward to getting to know my new home.

Hello and welcome!

What part of Liverpool will you be moving to? Love it up here in the NW- People are lovely and there is lots to do.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

Thanks, Joeybug and Smashley.

We'll be living in the city center in Liverpool.  It will be a big change from our current location in the 'burbs, but it's a change to which I am looking forward.  It seems like it will be easy to get to a variety of non-city locations without having to go too far, plus there is so much to do in the city itself.  I've got a friend from the U.S. coming to visit a few weeks after we move, so I expect that will help jump-start my tourism.

Yep indeed welcome :)
What part of the East Coast? It's a pretty long coast ;)

I was born n brought up in Massachusetts and came to Scotland from Mass. in 1999 and been here ever since. Worked my way up the immigration ladder and have had dual citizenship for yonks. :)

Thanks, Kaylesh.  I'm from Washington, D.C.

Having settled into Liverpool a little bit this week, my husband and I are headed back to the U.S. to visit with family and friends.  As luck would have it, we'll get to see the cherry blossoms on the Tidal Basin when we're there.  They're one of my favorite spring things in D.C.  :D

Hope you are settling into Liverpool.  I  have loved it everytime I have been there.  We will be moving there in the very near future....as soon as I get my visa.  I have been to Liverpool several times so if you need any advice I am here!

Pleased to make your acquaintance, EloiseMX.  I'm from the DC area as well (Montgomery County, Maryland) and also met my husband while I was studying in London.  Hope you guys have a safe trip back to the States and enjoy the cherry blossoms!
