The 10 Worst Airlines in the World
« on: May 05, 2013, 06:40:10 PM »

Zagat's airline survey:

http://www.businessinsider.com/worst-airlines-in-the-world-2010-12#

I am surprised at US Airways inclusion, and their score. I thought they were about average.

I'm surprised to see U.S. airways on the list, too. I've flown with them several times, both for domestic and international travel, and they're definitely one of my favorite airlines to fly with.

I've had a mixed experience with them. On some flights, the crew was cheerful and helpful; on others they were miserable and disinterested.  I was surprised by their food score as well. For airline food, I thought it was mainly good, except for one rather bland pasta meal. Everything else seemed fresh (or as fresh as one can get on a flight.)

I think the biggest surprise is that Delta isn't on the list, considering it stands for Don't Ever Leave The Airport (DELTA).  ;D

USAir is responsible for me missing my good friend's wedding.  No apology, no compensation, not even an acknowledgement that they screwed up.  Every single time I've flown with them, they've been late, uncomfortable and served bad food.  Never again.  I go out of my way to avoid them now.

I'm only surprised they're not higher on the list.

Oh wow, that's awful. :(

Only once did I experience a delay with them - 6 hours due to ice. Surprisingly, even though it turned my 8 hours to 14 (and I HATE flying with a passion due to my claustrophobia), I was cheerful, as I was flying back to the UK for Christmas.

I was also a hero of sorts in my section on the plane, as I always buy goodies before the flight. So my seat-neighbors got their fill of snacks while we waited forever for our meal. It became kind of a joke on the plane, as I pulled various items from my bag, with people asking me, "Do you have a cheesesteak in there? What about a meatloaf sandwich?" I pretended to take orders. :D

Hey, you have to do something from going insane when you're stuck on a plane for 14 hours.

Cannot believe that American Airlines is not on the list.  The planes they use to fly between New York JFK and Manchester are 3 seats on each side.  No TV's in the seat back, but above the aisle.  They advertise 2 movies but NEVER show 2.  Sometimes not any at all. Try to find a flight attendant 2 hours after take off (hint they are sleeping in the last 2 rows with curtains drawn around the seats).  Check in at Manchester is disastrous.  Last trip I was there 3 hours before my flight and checked in online so just had to go to bag drop.....they were only taking passengers on an earlier flight and in the end I had to run through the airport to get to my gate.  The agents are rude and act like I am bothering them by flying with them.

I think ALL airlines are guilty of giving some people a bad experience. I used to work for USAirways and I have to say...they've given me some pretty bad flight and airport experiences. Some of the staff in PHL are HORRID! That being said, hubby used to fly American all the time when we first met and really liked them. He flew them again a couple of years ago and hated it! He's had good and bad flights on BA as well.
Rude staff is unforgivable. I remember having some really bad days at work with fog and snow...I'm talking 12+ hour days with barely time to use the bathroom...and still smiling through it all. It may have been a fake smile..but it was plastered on my face!
You name an airline...and I'm sure there are tons of people who will complain about them, just as there will be people who sing their praises.

THIS. I try my hardest to never fly with American carriers, but I will never, ever fly Delta again in my life. I'd literally choose to not travel over flying with Delta.

I do agree with RyanAir at #1, though. My husband had an awful experience with them about ten years where smoke filled the cabin, the masks dropped down and even though they were still on the tarmac, they refused to let anyone leave the planeand then carried on with the flight like nothing happened. That flight literally turned him into a sweaty, nervous heap when flying now ever since...

easyJet, however, I try to avoid if I can help it, but they're nowhere near as bad as Delta or RyanAir IMHO.

British Airways is the worst imo. No legroom, incapable and incompetent flight attendants, lost baggage, strict baggage limits, gross food overspiced with Indian herbs, the reek of which fills the cabin immediately and lingers for an hour or two...
Never on time, crappy airport to connect at (not even a place where you could lie down and absence of Wi-Fi), planes so old they should be in the scrapyard, poor in-flight entertainment (the screen is the size of an iPhone, slow, poor movie selection)...
Ugghh! Loathe the idea of flying with them.
Always go with Air France - KLM.

food overspiced with Indian herbs,

I've never ever in all my life of flying BA experienced that ... but it would be a big plus in my book!  ;D ;)
