Now I'm craving guac!

Me too!  HB is kind of neutral on Mexican food, so I don't make it often... but he is going away for 4 days next week, so I think I may be having a Mex marathon!

I haven't been cooking recently (for a variety of reasons) but I agree it's time for Mex marathon! Enchiladas! Homemade beans! Tortilla soup! The list is endless..... :D

Albatross, I haven't tried the Mexican places in town, but noticed the other day there's a new Pinto's on Gordon Street....may have to check it out soon!  The Mr. and I have been talking about giving Nachos in Shawlands a try....we may go next week, so I'll be sure to give you a review if we do :)

Where in California are you from?  I lived in Sausalito until I was 5, but still have family in the San Fran area.

I'm seriously craving guacamole right now....I've never tried garlic salt, think I'll have to give that a go.  I hope there's decent avocados at the shop today, it's seriously hit or miss.
I moved to Glasgow from NYC/Long Island August 2012.  And yes, I miss the pizza.

We ate at the Pinto in Queen Street, so it's good they're doing well enough to open a new branch.  That's right around the corner from Taco Mazama, so there could be competition there!

I'm originally from a grubby little town in So Cal called Norco, but lived in SF for a year... going to gigs, riding my motorcycle all over town and generally just having a laugh.  It was really good!  Nothing like as good as my life in Glasgow is, though, despite no longer having a motorbike!  ;)

If you stick your Avocado in the brown paper bag like Courtney suggested, but also throw a ripe banana in there, your avocado will potentially be ripe by the next day or day after. There's something that bananas put out that causes other fruit to ripen faster.

Also, welcome to UKY!  :) I lived in and around Glasgow for 2 and a half years and miss it every day!

Cool, I've always wanted to live in SF as an adult.  But Glasgow's pretty cool, too! Sounds like you really love it here, that's great.  Even if you had to give up your motorbike :)  Do you go to a lot of gigs in Glasgow?

Erm...first off, you're not old. Second, since when did gigs have an age limit? ;)

LOL!
I'm 'old' in the sense that i can no longer tolerate the crowds, the queueing, the decibel levels, the getting bumped and jostled and pushed and moshed-upon.  And, most of the bands i'd consider paying to see are no longer playing live gigs.

Saying this, though... we do have tickets to see Half Man Half Biscuit in June.  :)

Viva Mexico! on Cockburn Street in Edinburgh is a fantastic Mexican restaurant run by an actual Mexican. I was just there again about 10 days ago and it was as good as ever. Illegal Jack's on Lothian Road is supposed to have good fajitas, but I haven't been yet. A bit further north, The Grill House in St. Andrews is also very good, especially the fajitas.

Ace!  Caught them last June in Leeds and it was the best time I'd had at a gig in ages.

Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance! In your Joy Division oven gloves!

Hi Kate,

Small world - I live in Long Beach and long to move to Scotland when I retire in 8 years! And my sister used to live in Somerville. Funny!

My husband is from England and has been here for 9 years. The parking in LB makes him absolutely mental!  [smiley=bigcry.gif]
