New kittens
« on: May 31, 2013, 12:51:53 PM »
It's been 2 years now since my 19 year old cat, Holly, passed away.
On Monday we are having a home visit from a cat rescue centre for 2 kittens (sisters).
Now thinking of names - even though they've been given names we want to choose our own for them, they are almost 8 weeks old so we should get them in the next few weeks if all goes well.
I'm thinking along the line of Native American Indian names...DW came up with Dakota and I quite like Kichai.

Pics when we get them. Although DW does have a pic of them with their other siblings so I'll try to get that off her.

The one on the right at the front, and the one right at the back peeking over! That one looks so alert!

Hee, too cute!  Looks like you're going to have your hands full with those two!

Gotta love kitten season.  We got our two bundles of fur-joy right around this time last year.  I like the idea of Native American kitty names.  We named ours after song titles of one our mutual favourite bands. :)

We didn't need the home visit. The "cat lady" couldn't make it last week as her son was ill and we said we'd go down to see the cats (in Derby so a 1 hr drive) and also she was originally unwilling to do a home visit so far away and DW said we'd cover her petrol.
So when we went and spent 2 hours there and she saw us with the cats she was happy to go ahead. She said she'd spoken the previous evening with the other women who does the rescues and said that we obviously wanted the cats if we were coming down to see them, and that we would take good care of them. The home visit, she said, was more to see what we were like rather than seeing what the house was like. She said that some people are getting rescue cats as "bait" for fighting dogs! That's also while they have an adoption fee.
She's going to get the kittens vaccinated and microchipped - it was £20 adoption fee each without the vaccine or £40 each with and when I checked a few vets they were quoting £40 for the vaccines etc.
So we can pick them up in about 4 weeks but as we are going to Wales for a week we've arranged to make it 6 weeks and we'll pick the cats up on the way home!

Names - DW liked the original names of Millie and Mazie, I wanted to change to Native American names. So compromise, one is called Millie and the other is Kasa (Native American name meaning "dressed in furs" - I thought that was very apt!)

Congrats on the new additions, TykeMan!

I keep telling my two they can be replaced. Keep that threat in your back pocket for when they grow up to be attitude-inous cats. (Which, let's be honest, is when they're the BEST, because their personalities are what make them so lovable.)

Can already tell that Kasa is the "alpha-female", straight into anything. Whilst Millie (the one at the back in the pic) is rather more cautious.

Kasa is a terrific name for a potential troublemaker!
