Liquid Coffee Mate (refrigerated) for my coffee
« on: June 24, 2013, 10:35:14 AM »
Has anyone found anything that compares to Coffee Mate? When I ordered coffee in a a restaurant they asked if I wanted single cream or double cream?

What it it about liquid Coffee Mate you prefer? Is it related to dairy issues?

Alpro has soya based products and I have seen Rice Dream readily available in the UK.

Did you ask for cream(er)?   Normally, coffee comes with milk here.

I think you can find powdered coffeemate - in some flavours- *I think* -I've never looked for it.

Honestly, I find a tub of Elmlea regular or light double cream works for me. It's oil-based so similar to the fakiness of American coffee creamers. I only use a small amount of the Elmlea, much less than if I had Coffeemate or half and half.

I cannot stand plain milk in coffee so this works well...for home use. I stick to lattes or tea when I'm out for a hot beverage.

I know I've seen the powdered coffee mate in the stores, but not sure about flavours, and I don't think I've ever seen any liquid coffee creamers here. Sorry :( I know I've seen flavoured syrups for your coffee and wonder if you used that along with a single or double cream if it would come close? I take my coffee black and unsweetened so I don't pay too close attention.

I just did a quick google and Amazon (.co.uk) have it but it costs an absolute fortune! :o

Asda (for example) just seems to have the powdered stuff.

Single cream = Half and half
Double cream  =  heavy whipping cream

No not related to dairy issues, I just like how it tastes in my coffee versus milk. Maybe I will give the Rice Dream a try. Thank you

Single cream = Half and half
Double cream  =  heavy whipping cream

Thank you. That was going to be my next question what is comparable to half/half. I am currently drinking a cup of coffee with single cream.

Here's a few copycat recipes you could try your hand at?  Make up a batch and keep in fridge and shake well?

French Vanilla and variants

One based off the powders

Coffee Creamer

Rice dream isn't very nice in coffee.  It's very thin and has no flavor at all.  Soy milk (not the low fat ones) is much more substantial (I used it in my coffee for years when I was trying to be vegan), but if you don't have a problem with dairy I'd stick with dairy-based stuff as it's much more delicious.

Yes. Sorry. And agreed.

Was just thinking about the dairy issue, not the 'with coffee' taste issue.

Hope you find a new combo you like.  :)

I'm a huge fan of French vanilla Coffeemate Creamer and decided to try to make my own.  It came out perfect and I thought I would share it with everyone on here. I mixed 1 can of Carnation condensed milk (can does not say sweetened so I wasn't sure how it would be) then filled the can with Milk (Skimmed for less calories, Full for more taste) and added Natural Vanilla Extract (bought from Tesco)   It taste just like the vanilla creamer and very cheap to make. Just remember that it will last as long as the date on the milk.  (Next time I'm going to try adding Caramel flavoring)
