Newbie from Illinois
« on: October 20, 2004, 03:28:44 AM »
Hi everyone!
I found this forum accidentally while searching for info on fiance visas, I'm sure glad I did! Ok, first of all, I'm 39 and in love with a wonderful man from Scotland. We met online 4 months ago and I'm going to be with him for 2 weeks in..well 2 weeks! ;D We have become so close since we met and haven't missed 1 day of talking to each other, we both want to get married and I hope this is possible for us. I already know his family and have talked to both of his parents online and seen them on the web cam..pretty hip for a couple of retired people! ;) I know according to the rules we have to meet first and that's what we're doing right now, but I'm unsure of what all is required for me to get a fiance' visa. I hope it doesn't take too long, he's not on public funds and is working so I see no real problems unless I need an ungodly amount of money to help support myself for the 6 months I'm there if I'm approved. I have so many questions but I'll start with those as I have to be off to work now. I look foward to meeting you all. :)

Kay65,

Hey, I actually know all about Sandwich, Illinois!!! I spent a lot of time there over the past 17 years with a family who used to live there but are now in Rockford, Illinois (the father was the pastor at Salem Lutheran Church). Welcome!!!

Welcome, Kay!  Three years ago I was in similar shoes.  I'm from Illinois (Chicago area) and met and fell for a guy I met on the internet who lived in Ireland.  After five months of talking online and on the phone, he flew over to Chicago to meet me and the rest is history.  ;)

I don't know anything about the rules in the UK, since my Irish experience was very different, but I'm sure you'll find all the help you need from the folks on these forums.

Cheers.  :)
