The current global travel alert.
« on: August 05, 2013, 03:16:26 AM »
What does it mean for Americans returning to the UK this month? I'm set to fly Tuesday and I'm terrified about the heightened alerts and what I should do... Just looking for advice from anyone who may have previous experience in this situation.

I received a travel alert this week but it was for the middle east and north africa.  Is that the one?

I have traveled under high alerts before.  When they are in place, security can take a bit longer but that's the only thing you need to be prepared for.

As you are traveling from the US to the UK, it will probably be business as usual.  If you were flying to Cairo, I would reschedule your trip if you were able.

There's a number at the end of the travel alert you can call if you want more info.

Seems to me it's only really an issue if you're flying through the Middle East.   :-\\\\

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. I signed up for the STEPs program or whatever that is that's supposed to issue travel alerts for the place you're going. So we'll see how that goes. My family is nervous and worried and I can't say I'm feeling the greatest about this trip either, but I just saw some people posting on my Facebook saying they've arrived in London and such no issues. So that's positive. Thanks again :)
